Man Utd are ending in on an agreement to bring Casemiro to Old Trafford, but they'll need to abandon plans to make him public before Monday's game against Liverpool.
Manchester United have presumably abandoned plans to unveil Casemiro ahead of Monday night's match against Liverpool due to visa problems with the Brazilian midfielder.
After agreeing a £60 million deal in theory with Real Madrid to sign the 30-year-old midfielder, the club hoped to present Casemiro to their fans at Old Trafford on Monday night. However, according to The Athletic, the club has yet to obtain a visa for Casemiro, who will not be present for the match against Jurgen Klopp's side.
That appears to mean United fans will have to wait until next weekend's trip to Southampton to see their first sneak preview of Casemiro, who has been signed to help Manchester United's long-standing midfield problems.
Ten Hag, who spent the summer pursuing a deal for Barcelona playmaker Frenkie de Jong, turned to Casemiro this week in the aftermath of United's disastrous start to the season.
Scott McTominay and Fred have disappointed the Dutchman with their performance this season in saddling defeats against Brighton and Brentford, which have dropped United to the bottom of the Premier League. However, it is hoped that the signing of Casemiro - a five-time Champions League winner who has played a key role in Real Madrid's continued progress over the past nine years - will result in an immediate improvement for United, who will look to the service member authority figure to bring some much-needed balance to Ten Hag's malfunctioning engine room.
Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney, on the other hand, has called into question whether Casemiro is the type of midfielder the club requires. The club's all-time top goalscorer believes that by agreeing to pay big money for the former Sao Paulo man, Ten Hag and United have demonstrated that their transfer approach is "reactive" rather than proactive.
"This goes back to the need to look to the future," Rooney wrote in The Times. They should ideally sign players in their early to mid-twenties, and Casemiro is similar to Christian Eriksen in that he has been a good player, but will they help the club move forward? Ten Hag's main midfield target, Frenkie de Jong, would be a better fit.
"The Casemiro signing appears to have come out of nowhere and appears to be a reactive signing — I'd be surprised if he was identified as a priority to bring in when ten Hag arrived." After failing to sign de Jong, it appears that United simply reacted to Casemiro's availability."
