Once a deal to send Eric Bailly to Marseille is finalized in the upcoming days, Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag plans to fire a number of marginal players.

At Old Trafford, Erik ten Hag will use the cutting tool.

As Eric Bailly gets closer to leaving Manchester United, Erik ten Hag has already decided which three players he wants to let go.

The Ivorian defender, who joined the team in 2016 under Jose Mourinho's leadership, has lost prominence over the past 12 months and hasn't been included in United's matchday squad once this season.

After United spent more than £56 million to sign Lisandro Martinez, Bailly's departure was inevitable. In an effort to resume playing regularly for the first team, Bailly is about to sign a season-long loan deal with Marseille.

According to the agreement, if the French powerhouses reach the Champions League and Bailly, 28, appears in a predetermined number of matches over the course of the following 12 months, they must pay about €7 million (£5.9 million) to acquire him permanently.

And according to The Telegraph, Ten Hag is reportedly focusing on selling Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Phil Jones, and Axel Tuanzabe in addition to Bailly, who is expected to leave United in the coming weeks.

The trio are all out of favor with the Dutchman, who is eager to make room in his team for new additions before the deadline of September 1.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer paid a staggering £50 million to acquire Wan-Bissaka in 2019, but the former Crystal Palace right-back has had trouble making an impact at Old Trafford.

After a breakout season at Selhurst Park, the 24-year-old was considered one of the nation's most promising defenders. However, he has since lost his starting spot to Diogo Dalot and has been linked with a return to the Eagles in a £10 million deal.

Jones has experienced a string of injuries while playing for Manchester United, but he did show promise last season when he was briefly thrust back into the first team. The veteran is, however, also no longer needed and is free to move on.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka is set follow Eric Bailly out the door at Old Trafford after losing his first-team spot

After losing his berth in the first squad, Aaron Wan-Bissaka is expected to leave Old Trafford alongside Eric Bailly.

Tuanzabe is prepared to leave Old Trafford in the same manner as Jones and Wan-Bissaka after struggling to make an impact during recent loan stints at Aston Villa and Napoli. Since his senior debut in 2017, the United academy graduate has only made 37 appearances for the team.

In addition to looking for offensive additions, Ten Hag is still committed to hiring a second right-back before the deadline, with Thomas Meunier of Borussia Dortmund drawing attention.

The United manager is also looking for a goalkeeper to compete with David de Gea, and despite the recent £60 million acquisition of Casemiro, another midfielder might possibly be on the way.
