Ander Herrera has decided to end his contract with Paris Saint-Germain two years early, and he will make an emotional homecoming to Athletic Bilbao in the summer transfer window.
The fan favorite from Manchester United only had a little role for the French team last season, and early this summer, it was announced that he was free to join another team during the transfer window.
It is believed that Herrera, 33, will rejoin Bilbao, the team he played for for three productive years before leaving for Old Trafford earlier in his career.
The Spaniard joined United in the summer of 2014 for £28.85 million. He stayed with the team for five years before leaving as a free agent and joining PSG after his contract expired.
Initially adamant that he would spend his final two years in Paris, Herrera has been forced to go as PSG scrambles to offload part of their squad before the transfer deadline.
He is reportedly eager to leave now, though, in order to play more frequently. He will formally leave the Parisian team once a compensation package is decided upon to buy out his remaining two years.
Herrera established himself as a fan favorite throughout his five seasons with United, making 189 appearances while helping the team win the FA Cup in 2016, the League Cup, and the Europa League in 2017.
