According to rumors, Manchester United has been informed by Ajax that they must spend £84 million in order to sign Antony in the final week of the transfer season. The Brazilian forward is reportedly holding out for a transfer to Old Trafford, but the Red Devils will need to fork over a huge sum of money to work out a deal so close to the deadline of September 1.
Ajax swiftly rejected United's initial offer of £67 million for the 22-year-old last week, forcing the parties back to the negotiating table.
The Amsterdam giants have consistently refuted rumors that Antony will be sold by adamantly maintaining that the forward has no plans to leave.
To the chagrin of Ajax, Antony has now made it quite obvious that he would be eager to explore a transfer and reunion with Erik ten Hag.
The Eredivisie champions are reportedly holding out for £84m in an effort to dissuade United from making a deal, according to The Telegraph.

A new bid from the Red Devils is reportedly being prepared, and it might put the Dutch team's determination to the test.
Antony informed Ajax last Saturday that he did not want to play in the league match away to Sparta Rotterdam.
As a result, he was not included in the squad, and discussions between all parties are still taking place behind the scenes about his current predicament.
An image of Antony and his agency watching United's 2-1 win against Liverpool on Monday night was uploaded by Antony's agent.
The post was subsequently hurriedly removed, but some United supporters were able to screenshot the proof as rumors grow louder.
However, United is wary that Ajax is trying to scare them away with their unreasonable demands and does not want to be held to ransom.
According to reports in Holland, Ajax believes United might have signed Antony earlier in the window if they had been more persistent.
There is now resentment at former manager Ten Hag, who is attempting to oust one of Ajax's finest players before the start of a new season.
Fortunately for Ajax, United does have another candidate in mind in the form of Cody Gakpo of PSV Eindhoven.
He was originally prohibited from leaving PSV until after their Champions League qualifier match against Rangers.
Movement may thus occur after the conclusion of Wednesday night's game because Gakpo is available for only £34 million, which is a pittance compared to Antony's estimation.
Ajax is privately hoping United pursue Gakpo since it would make Ruud van Nistelrooy's team less strong, giving the defending champions an advantage.
