Borussia Dortmund is now considering a potential shock transfer for a Liverpool player.

According to David Maddock of the Mirror, Borussia Dortmund is keeping an eye on Naby Keita's situation in light of the Guinean international's dissatisfaction at Liverpool.

The 27-year-old, whose contract expires at the end of the current campaign, got hurt just before Jurgen Klopp's team lost to Manchester United 2-1 at Old Trafford.

Goal reports that there is concern that he, along with Thiago Alcantara, Curtis Jones, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, will be sidelined for a while. However, this is unlikely to deter any potential suitors from the Bundesliga.

Keita gained notoriety for his outstanding work with RB Leipzig in the German Bundesliga; the team is also in the running to re-sign him.

At the age of 23, he moved from Die Roten Bullen to Anfield for an initial £48 million, with the responsibility of managing Liverpool's midfield for the ensuing five years.

That's not how things turned out.

Keita played 76 times for Liverpool in the Premier League over the course of four years, missing 50 percent of the games while making 117 total appearances due to injuries and other absences from the team.

However, due to Dr. Andreas Schlumberger's appointment as head of recovery, last season was his most prolific in terms of appearances. He participated in 40 games, including 10 of the twelve UEFA Champions League games.

Dortmund's interest might prompt someone with a keen mind to consider the implications of a deal for Jude Bellingham, which has been rumored for a while.

The Englishman is more physically robust, has youth on his side, and practically identical technique, so a swap deal with additional cash could work. These transactions are quite difficult, though.

It is unlikely that he will be released during this transfer window, but Liverpool's fourth most costly acquisition might leave for free the following summer.
