Alexander Isak, a €70 million (£59 million) deal from Real Sociedad, has landed in the north-east of England as he nears setting a new record signing for Newcastle.
Isak, a Swedish national, has long been a target for the Magpies, as 90min reported on Wednesday. Newcastle's bid had been accepted by the Spanish club.
Isak's contract with La Real has a €90 million buyout clause, and the San Sebastian-based club was not willing to release the 22-year-old unless their valuation was satisfied. Newcastle's offer was deemed to be too great to refuse, despite not being enough to activate the clause.

Eddie Howe's team plays Wolves at Molineux on Sunday, and Isak wants to make his debut there.
Personal terms with Isak are essentially settled, and the two teams are now finalizing the agreements. For him to be able to play this weekend, he must register by Friday at noon.
Ainsley Maitland-Niles, a forgotten midfielder for Arsenal, has also been offered to West Ham in addition to discussions with Southampton and Bournemouth.
Edson Alvarez, a defensive midfielder for Ajax, is a target for Newcastle, and Alexander Isak, a striker for Real Sociedad, is a target as well.
