Wesley Fofana and Anthony Gordon are only two of the transfer targets for Chelsea, but manager Thomas Tuchel believes that nothing is guaranteed.

In a last-minute attempt to strengthen their roster before the transfer window closes, Thomas Tuchel acknowledges that Chelsea might come up empty-handed.

Wesley Fofana of Leicester City and Anthony Gordon of Everton are reportedly still targets for the Blues as new owner Todd Boehly hunts for reinforcements.

In recent months, a number of other players have been linked to Chelsea but eventually failed to sign, so head coach Tuchel is not making any assumptions.

Tuchel responded when asked how many players Chelsea would hope to sign before the market closes on September 1: "Though perhaps no one enters, we do have some thoughts.

"The window is getting shorter and will soon close, therefore the emphasis is on the things within our control.

Whatever we want, there are always a number of parties that need to agree.

It is anticipated that Chelsea would have to spend much more than £100 million to sign both Gordon and Fofana.

When Leicester travels to Chelsea in the Premier League on Saturday, Fofana won't play since the Foxes aren't sure what will become of the Frenchman's future.

Tuchel is also not expected to be particularly noticeable on gameday because he will soon begin serving a touchline suspension. Tuchel, who recently received a one-match suspension for his altercation with Antonio Conte of Tottenham following the recent 2-2 draw in the London derby, will likely watch from the sidelines barring a last-minute reprieve.

After a set-to at the final whistle, both players were dismissed, and a still-shrewd Tuchel remarked on Friday: "I can accept that I get a ban and a fine, but what I don't understand is the other coach does not get the same punishment."

Tuchel had a long list of tasks to complete, including getting Chelsea back on track following last week's 3-0 loss at Leeds United.

He added with a chuckle that his job "sounds dreadful" right now, but he is confident Chelsea will soon be playing at their best.

Nevertheless, he said that his team "has to develop" and is "in transition".
