MANIFESTO DELIVERED BY MISS REMEMBER AKOS AVORNYO, A CANDIDATE FOR THE POSITION OF SRC WOMEN’S COMMISSIONER, ON THE 2ND DAY OF SEPTEMBER, 2022 AT THE LETSA KORBA HALL
Mr. Chairman, The Vice Principle, The Dean of Students, Staff present, General Electoral Commission, SRC Executive, Fellow Trainees, Co-aspirant, Ladies and Gentlemen, all protocols duly acknowledged, good evening.
Leadership is not a right to rulership but the opportunity to serve. It will be a sign of disrespect if credence is not given to the amazing office of the former SRC executive especially the women commissioner, Miss Celestine Dadoho, I say Ayekoo.
My name is Remember Akos Avornyo, a Level 200 Mathematics/Science student in Akatsi College of Education. Prior to my zeal for servitude to this noble institution, I served as an assistant girls’ prefect at my Junior High School days where I laid hands on some leadership skills.
Mr. Chairman, due to my roles played back in my previous school as assistant Girls’ Prefect I was privileged to lay hold on tangible experiences in line with women involvement in tasks, and also the empowerment of females in all sphere of life.
Ladies and gentlemen, as it goes what men can do women do so better, when given the power to champion the affairs of the women, I will strive for equal representation of females in leadership roles ranging far from the hall levels to the broader union. This action will also serve as an encouragement to females who in one way or the other have low self esteem to have a positive mindset for bigger achievements.
Mr. Chairman, it is of no doubt that women are always regarded as the weaker vessels as they face challenges ranging from sexual harassment, intimidation, threats and above all sexual abuse. Even though ladies are only noted for facing these acts, the men also fall victim to this act in some ways as well. When given the power as the women commissioner, I will work in hand with the appropriate committees such as the quality assurance officer and other instituted committees to erupt any form of misconduct attributed to the ladies in this noble institution. Adequate education will be given to the student body by resource personnels to put them on guard and alert.
Ladies and gentlemen, when give the mandate to serve this position, I will work in hand with the school management likewise other elected executives to provide skill training to ladies in the school. This policy when taken will prepare us for the wider job market aside our field of expertise. To help also solve financial burden of the ladies, skills like make-up, pedicure, manicure, massage, soap making, bead making and also beverage production will be laid in place under my administration.
Fellow trainees, when given the nod foe this enviable position, I will implement the techno-lady policy. This policy will be designed in a way to train fellow ladies to be expert in the use of ICT tools as it is the order of the day. Not to only play safe on the side of the ladies, this policy will be opened to the gentlemen who also wish to undergo the training at larger.
Mr. Chairman, with the pre-exquisite skill acquired in my former mentioned position, I will run campaigns to educate students on the achievability of gender equality, the importance of treating men and women as equals, and how this translates to our wider society. I will also work relentlessly to ensure women in the college put their skills and talents to use. Also, those without any special skills will be made to learn any skill of their choice.
Ladies and gentlemen, I solely promise to continue the work of my predecessors to rally women behind the vision of AKATSICO. I believe that the ends of all our efforts should be to contribute towards building a strong and resilient students' group and the first responsibility as Women Commissioner in my view is to ignite passion among our women to contribute to the growth of AKATSICO by actively participating in the activities of AKATSICO. This is because the growth of AKATSICO is cardinal to achieving the development aspirations of female students and will require a strong students union to drive the programs and activities of the Women’s Commissioner.
To end, I want to empower women to find their voice and ensure their voices are heard. And to give them the confidence to voice their opinions and suggestions to the student union so the talents and ideas of many are heard and used.
I believe I can achieve these aims with your support.
