A MANIFESTO TO BE DELIVERED BY ABUKU, EMMANUEL KWAKU ON THE 2ND OF SEPTEMBER, 2022 AT THE LETSA KORBA HALL AS AN ASPIRANT FOR THE OFFICE OF THE SRC GENERAL SECRETARY FOR THE  2022/2023 ACADEMIC YEAR.

Mr. Chairman, Principal of the College, Vice Principal, College Secretary, Students' Affair's Tutor, Departmental Heads, Hardworking Senior Members, Dedicated Hall Wardens, Competent SRC, The Electoral Commission, Colleague Students , Ladies And Gentlemen. Good evening.

I am very delighted and honored to be on this podium in the sight of these notable personnel and educates to present my manifesto. I acknowledge you all for your time and assemblage. Kobe Bryant once said, "You can win 20 championships but people will still have their opinion about who is the best. And these things are superficial”. It all boils down to the impact you make on people on daily basis.

Mr. Chairman, with your indulgence, may I salute the brains of our outgoing SRC and our predecessors. I want to be that leader first and foremost, building on the tradition of my predecessors, standing for continuity and stability. Donald McGannon once said; “Leadership is not a position, but action”, Napoleon Bonaparte on the other hand said; “A leader is a dealer in hope”.

It is on this note that I, ABUKU, EMMANUEL KWAKU, a level 200 student of this noble College pursuing B.ED (ICT and Mathematics) hopes to be your next SRC General Secretary. The SRC as a body is founded by students and for students. This means all interactions between the SRC and Management should have the students' best interest as the core of it all.

Here is my mission as I contest for this office, “An ABUKU led SRC secretariat will make vital information available and accessible to students at the right time. ABUKU will make Akatsico popular and attractive to all students.”

Mr. Chairman, Ladies and gentlemen, you all may be wondering why the office of the General secretary. The role of a secretary appeals to me very much. You can all agree with me that at the top of the administrative hierarchy, the  secretary must be Someone that everyone can ask help from and I love the idea of  being supportive. I am friendly and approachable and I believe that everyone can come to me with any query or problem they might have. The SRC General Secretaries over the last few years were up and doing. Placing the secretariat on a high pedestal. However, I believe there is more that can be done to make the office much better.

The primary objective is to move the SRC secretariat beyond the normal duties enshrined in the constitution and to add up to the many successes that has been chalked.

My vision for the SRC is to be a channel through which the voice of the ordinary student will be heard by creating avenue for effective communication between the students and the administration.

Mr. Chairman, Fellow students, we all have a general function according to Chapter 2, Article 4, Clause 9 of the 2017 constitution of the Akatsico SRC. Thus, “Organizing an annual SRC week celebration on campus”. Even though it is a constitutional responsibility, it can only materialize when you choose the right leaders to lead you.  Fellow students, it has been three years our noble institution has celebrated an SRC week. I do not blame my predecessors, because COVID-19 was a termite that ate deeply into our activities in the college and in the world as a whole. But since it is no more here, we are glad. I will work passionately with other SRC Executives to meet this constitutional requirement during my tenure of office. If you have already made up your mind to vote for ABUKU as your next SRC General Secretary, then anticipate Akatsico SRC week celebration 2023.

Fellow students, Considering the times we find ourselves in, now more than ever, the SRC should be able to blend physical communications with keeping a strong digital engagement. To do this, the ABUKU led SRC secretariat will do the following;

ABUKU will use modern technology, like email, Pen drive and google drive in the documentation of files and records for the secretariat so that in my absence, subsequent secretaries can have access in retrieving important data for the progress of the SRC. In addition, the SRC will purchase an external hard disk to augment our effort in the storage of documents. I intend to work assiduously to keep your documents safe. Both inherited and the ones we will create in the future. Fellow students, I will continue to ensure that the SRC makes the best out of its record keeping.

If you vote ABUKU as your next SRC General Secretary, I intend to work hand in hand with the appointed Public Relations Officer, assign committee to the various halls to help with the publicity of all upcoming activities on campus. I believe this will improve attendance and also give students the opportunity to air their concerns to the SRC executives. I also intend to circulate relevant information and excerpts pertaining to the SRC on the Social media platforms of the SRC.

As it stands now, the SRC as a whole has no desktop computer and printer of its’ own to help in the administration of the SRC secretariat. This problem impedes the communication of the SRC to the students. With the printer and computers, communication with the students and SRC documentation will be easy and less costly. Digitization and computerization of information are not left out of the duties of the SRC GENERAL SECRETARY. That is why as the SRC GENERAL SECRETARY, I will work cooperatively with the SRC President to get such tools for the SRC.

Fellow students, when you vote for me as your next SRC General Secretary , I intend to work passionately with other Executives to resolve the problem of our results being delayed. It is sad, that as it stands now, the first semester results of  level 100s, 200s and 300s have not been released. Same applies to my dear level 400s who are experiencing a lot of Incomplete commands (ICs) in their portals. Results are necessary because they measure our stance and projects the future. Vote for Abuku Emmanuel Kwaku as your next SRC General Secretary and we will resolve this problem together. Also, I will ensure to periodically organize quiz and debate competitions. Just as Miss Dedzo Precious and I were pacesetters who represented the college in this year’s Inter-Volta colleges’ debate and quiz competition, of which we chalked second among the Colleges in the Volta Region, I will ensure that I groom others to perform better than us in next year’s competition. I will be really keen to build good relationship with other executives of the SRC and continue to make the SRC the best it can be.

Fellow students, when you give me the mandate, I will seek to find solutions to problems voiced by the students in every sphere by working hand in hand with other executives.

Make me the Secretary of the SRC because I understand how much your opinions matter, because behind that opinion is a student that demands representation and behind that representation should be a unified SRC.

Fellow students, It is without a doubt that the role of the SRC General Secretary encompasses being able to write and keep minutes. Also, ensure good communication. But I want to take the office of the SRC General Secretary beyond keeping of records and writing of minutes. As the Chapter 5, Article 7, Clause 3 of the 2017 Constitution of Akatsico SRC states that the SRC General Secretary shall be the Chief scribe of the SRC, I  intend to demonstrate through writing just as Chinua Achebe said; “The pen is mightier than the sword”. The SRC General Secretary is the pivot of the administration. Every administration that is passionate about doing well needs a vibrant General Secretary. Imagine a school with no avenue for proper dissemination of information. Imagine a school that information is not authentic nor vital. It is for these reasons I dubbed my manifesto reading as “THE LEVELLED DISPARITY”. I will breach the gaps in  disseminating vital information.

I also intend to pioneer The Akatsico Diaries, a weekly news letter that will keep students and teachers abreast with all the happenings within the college. This newsletter will also include creative write ups of students who wish to publish their works.

Fellow students, beyond the campaigns and policies, We need people with track records and proofs of what they can do. It is true, that the past and the present are the stand points of the future. Someone may be thinking that the past is not supposed to be dwelt on. The only things in the past that we do not dwell on, are the ones that are toxic to us. But the good ones, we hold on to them. This is our opportunity to make our voices heard at any decision making level in the college. Farrah Gray once said, “Don’t tell me the sky is the limit when there are footsteps on the moon”. Your interest is my mandate. Voting for me is Voting for a better year in college. I am also imperfect just as many other humans. We make mistakes and we learn from them. They are the things that make us strong. My leadership will focus on strengthening our weaknesses, both individually and collectively as a student body.

Please take good care of yourself and stay safe, because ABUKU needs you healthy to vote for him on the 18th September,2022. Please remember to vote on that day wherever you may find yourself, because Plato said;” The punishment for not getting involved in politics, is that you end up being governed by inferiors.” When you tap the link for the polls, please remember my name, ABUKU, EMMANUEL KWAKU and vote for me as your next SRC General Secretary. I am number 4 on the ballot. Akatsico shall work again smoothly. Good thing is about to come from Nazareth and it shall benefit all and sundry.

Let ABUKU write SRC better.

God bless Akatsico SRC.

God bless the college of competitive choice.

Thank you.
