A MANIFESTO BY DAGODZO CEPHAS AS ASPIRANT FOR THE OFFICE OF SRC FINANCIAL SECRETARY OF THE 2022/2023 ACADEMIC YEAR
Nelson Mandela once said “To be a great leader, one must never give up, try to bring people together and be selfless. Leadership is about working with and for others to achieve a common goal that benefits everyone”.
The most valuable component of leadership is not power, position, influence, fame, gifting, talent, academic achievement, or management skills. It is character. Character is the framework of credibility for the leader. Without the element of strong, noble, honorable character, leadership and all its potential achievement are in danger of cancellation.
Mr. chairman , Members of staff present, SRC Executives, co-aspirants, colleagues, ladies and gentlemen, Good evening. I am highly honored and pleased to stand before this amazing house seeking your mandate to become the next AKATSICO SRC Financial Secretary. First of all, I would like to congratulate our SRC Executives for their hard work but I am more than ready to work collaboratively with SRC executives and entire students to the side so that we can drink the water of life in this great institution.
My name is Dagodzo Cephas, a level 200 student offering BE.d Mathematics and ICT in our noble institution, Akatsi College of Education. My qualities are humility, integrity, transparency, sincerity, selflessly, competence, fairness, responsibility and accountability.
Mr. Chairman, at this juncture, I would like to state my mission and vision.
Mission: To ensure sincerity, accountability and transparency in all transactions and monetary activities.
Vision: To work collaboratively and with enthusiasm to promote efficient use of SRC capitals and resources to undertake projects.
Mr. chairman, I stand before you this lovely moment to reveal to you my AGENDA for the office of the Financial Secretary of the college SRC. However, before I do that, one may ask, what function does the financial secretary perform?.
Mr. chairman, fellow colleagues, the office of the financial secretary shall prepare a budget, present it to the SRC and finance committee the statement account where financial approval for the payment will be granted in consultation with the president, the finance committee chairman and the tutor(s) responsible for the student affairs as the constitution stated. To add to that, the financial secretary is responsible for collecting monies on behalf of the SRC and keep true records of all financial transactions.
Mr. chairman, what I intend doing when elected as the Financial Secretary of the SRC can be classified under four thematic areas;
PROMOTE TRANSPARENCY IN SRC TRANSACTIONS
PROMOTE ACCOUNTABILITY
TO BRING INNOVATION ON BOARD IN LOOKING FOR PROJECT AND PROGRAMS
SELFLESSNESS
Mr. Chairman, ladies and gentlemen, we all know that as a financial secretary, I will be responsible for SRC capitals. These monies is not for personal use or to satisfy personal interest but rather to ensure that it has be used efficiently to benefit the students populace. Therefore ladies and gentlemen, if I become the financial secretary, I will ensure efficient use of SRC capitals and resources to undertake reasonable project on the campus. Project like renovating technical block unit, the plant among others
Mr. Chairman, ladies and gentlemen, we are all here to achieve academic excellency. We all pay for school fees and very importantly, examination fee but yet our end of semester results are not released for students populace to see their own performance as well as their parents seeing their performance. Mr. Chairman, I cannot see my fellow colleagues pay examination fee in vain and also see them sit in the dining hall, wasting time all in the name of results. Therefore ladies and gentlemen, if I become the financial secretary, I will ensure that I work collaboratively with my executive members in order to push the management and the administration to pressure UEW to create student portal for us so that we can access information without any stress.
Mr. Chairman, ladies and gentlemen, as I’m talking over here, I’ve no received my allowance since level 100. A situation where by allowance has paid but yet some students didn’t receive their own, it means there’s an error in their data input because we human beings are full of errors. As a victim ladies and gentlemen, when voted into power, I will continue the good work of our current SRC executives by making sure that all the necessary corrections has been rectified.
Mr. Chairman, ladies and gentlemen, we all know that students identification cards are vital in students life. With the help of the card, students can be easily identified if something happens to students outside the institution. Therefore ladies ad gentlemen, if I become the financial secretary, I will ensure that SRC monetary funds are used to help generate students card for each student on campus.
Mr. chairman, ladies and gentlemen, we all know that within a year, SRC has so many activities to organize and example is the SRC week celebration, sports entertainment and so on. Ladies and gentlemen, if I become the financial secretary, I will ensure that SRC dues are use to sponsor programs and activities. Despite the fact that we are all here for academic purposes.
Lastly Mr. Chairman, ladies and gentlemen, every year, we all pay school fees without seeing the details of the of it. In other colleges of education, all of the necessary things compiled together has been provided for students to see what they are paying for as school fees. Therefore ladies and gentlemen, when voted as financial secretary, i will makes sure my executives and i request for the breakdown of the school fees.
I therefore call on you to take the right step and get Dagodzo Cephas endorsed as the next SRC Financial Secretary of this noble institution.
