One dead, others including nurses injured in mob attack.


After sustaining varying degrees of injuries in a mob attack at Okushibeade, at least one person died and seven others are being treated in a Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) Compound.

The attack is said to have happened on Saturday, September 3, 2022, in the Ga West Municipality.


Six resident Nigerian men and two female workers from the Ga West Municipal Health Directorate were among those killed.


When the unfortunate incident occurred, the nurses were on official duty in Okushibeade, Mayikpor, and neighboring communities immunizing children against polio.


Clement Wilkinson, MCE for Ga West, with a victim of the mob attack at the CHPS compound. The cause of the attack has yet to be determined, but the mob, in their rage at the Nigerians, bruised the legs of the nurses who happened to be in the path of the enraged youth.


Nigerians, on the other hand, were severely injured with objects such as cutlasses, as evidenced by deep cuts on their heads and arms.


One of the Nigerians whose condition was critical and required referral died en route to the referred intensive care facility.

In an interview with Madam Margaretta Chandi, Municipal Health Director, she stated that plans are being made to replace the affected health workers on the immunization program.


According to her, the nurses' current condition will prevent them from continuing their immunization work.


She also stated that the Nigerians are responding favorably to the treatment.


Following receipt of the information, Ga West Municipal Chief Executive Clement Wilkinson paid a visit to the victims to express his condolences.


He promised that the authorities would work with the local police to bring the perpetrators to justice.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo left Ghana on Saturday, September 3rd, at the invitation of Ban Ki-Moon, the eighth Secretary-General of the United Nations and Chair of the Board of the Global Centre of Adaption (GCA), to attend the African Adaptation Summit on Monday, September 5th, 2022, at the GCA Headquarters in Rotterdam, Netherlands.

The Summit is expected to generate additional funding and support for the region's flagship Africa Adaptation Acceleration Program (AAAP). The program is bringing the Africa Adaptation Initiative's vision to life by mobilizing $25 billion in investments for climate adaptation in food security, resilient infrastructure, adaptation jobs, and climate finance by 2025.


At the invitation of the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, His Excellency Mark Tutte, President Akufo-Addo will undertake a working visit from 6th to 7th September, where he will, amongst others, hold bilateral discussions with his Dutch counterpart, aimed at strengthening the ties of co-operation that exist between the two countries.


The President will also attend a High-Level event commemorating the 3rd International Day to Protect Education from Attack. The conference will take place in Paris, France.

The President was accompanied by Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, Minister of Foreign Affairs; Hon. Dr. Kwaku Afriyie, MP for Sefwi Wiawso; and officials from the Presidency and Foreign Ministry.


President Akufo-Addo will return to Ghana on Saturday, September 10, 2022, and in his absence, the Vice President, Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, will act in his place in accordance with Article 60(8) of the Constitution.
