The 22-year-old Chelsea youth academy product has made 128 appearances for the Blues and has signed a contract extension until 2028.

James helped Chelsea win the 2020-21 Champions League and won two U18 Premier League titles and two FA Youth Cups during his time in the academy.

However, the England international expressed his desire to win more trophies in a message to Blues fans on Monday.

'I am overjoyed with my new contract and grateful to the fans, new ownership, and everyone involved in the club,' James told Chelsea's official website.

'I can't wait to see what the future holds, and I'm confident we'll win a lot of trophies.'

'I grew up supporting this club and have been a fan since I was six.' I signed a new contract because this is the club I want to work for.

'I'd like to express my heartfelt gratitude to the fans; I am here to stay, and we have a bright future ahead of us.'

'We are thrilled to give Reece a new long-term contract,' Chelsea owner Todd Boehly added.

'He is an outstanding player and a true Chelsea man, and we are all excited to see him flourish at Stamford Bridge.'

They began 2021-22 with a 1-0 win at Everton, a 2-2 draw at Tottenham, and an embarrassing 3-0 loss at Leeds United.

The Blues appeared to be turning a corner after a 2-1 win over Leicester City, but then lost 2-1 at Southampton before returning to winning ways against West Ham.
