The UEFA Champions League Matchday 1 was played today for Group E to Group H, reigniting the excitement of football fans. Groups A through D, however, will be played on Wednesday.
The Group stage is where the stage clubs play in a group of 4 for the qualification process to the Knockout stage.
Tonight's fixtures started in Croatia, where former Champions League winners Chelsea lost to Dinamo Zagreb at the Stadion Maksimir in the Group E encounter. Mislac Orsic's lone goal was able to secure victory for the underdogs. Arijan Ademi was adjudged the player of the match.
In the other Group E match in the Red Bull Arena, FC Salzburg drew at home with AC Milan. Noah Okafor scored first for the home side in the 28th minute, but his lead was cancelled by Milan’s Alexis Salemaekers in the 40' minute. German International Toni Kroos was awarded the Player of the Match. Celtic's only chance came when McGregor hit the crossbar, aside from a completely lackluster performance by the champions. Shakhtar Donetsk went to the Red Bull Arena Leipzip to thrash RB Leipzip 1-4. Maryan Shved scored a brace in the 16’ and 58; with Mudryk and Traore scoring in the 76' and 85' respectively. RB Leipzig's only consolation was scored by M. Simakan in the 57’. Maryan Shved was adjudged the player of the match, captain Teras Stepanenko told Sky spork "I could not have imagined in my wildest dreams such a game with four goals for us. But we played well, and I feel we deserved that result tonight. "
At the Iduna Park, Borussia Dortmund thrashed FC Copenhagen 3-0. Reus, Guerreiro, and Bellingham were the scorers for the German side. Julius Brandt of Dortmund was the player of the match. In the other Group G encounter, Manchester City went to the Estadio R. Senchez Pizjuan to humiliate Sevilla into a 4-0 defeat.
In-form Haaland had a brace; Phil Foden and Ruben Dias were the other scorers. After the game, Pep Guardiola, Manchester City manager, commented on the performance of Jack Grealish. He said, "Grealish was so aggressive in the first half. Sometimes he missed the last pass. "Jack will be so important this season, and he played a really good game."

Goals from Kylian Mbappe were enough for Paris Saint-Germain to beat Juventus 2-1, with Mckennie scoring for the Old Ladies. Mbappe was adjudged the man of the match.
