Just after seven matches into the season the German Gafer contract has been terminated, the club's official news website announced the decision today
The stated “Chelsea Football Club has today parted company with Head Coach Thomas Tuchel.On behalf of everyone at Chelsea FC, the Club would like to place on record its gratitude to Thomas and his staff for all their efforts during their time with the Club. Thomas will rightly have a place in Chelsea’s history after winning the Champions League, the Super Cup and Club World Cup in his time here.
As the new ownership group reaches 100 days since taking over the Club, and as it continues its hard work to take the club forward, the new owners believe it is the right time to make this transition.
Chelsea’s coaching staff will take charge of the team for training and the preparation of our upcoming matches as the Club moves swiftly to appoint a new head coach.
There will be no further comment until a new head coach appointment is made.”
Thomas Tuchel joined Chelsea on January 1, 2021, after previously being sacked by Paris Saint-Germain. Chelsea have been in poor form this season. Out of the seven (7) matches, they won three (3), lost three (3), and drew once, accumulating only 10 points in the English Premiership.
During his tenure at Chelsea, he played 99 matches in all competitions, winning 66 matches, drawing 19 and losing 18, which is an almost 67% winning rate. He led the Blues to their second Champions League title and FIFA Club World Cup titles. He also won a personal award with the club when he was adjudged the Best Club Coach in the 2020/2021 season.
The club delegated assistant coach Barry to take over until a substantive manager is appointed and before the league match against Fulham.
Names like Graham Potter, Mauricio Pochettino, and Zinedine Zidane have already been linked to the Clubs to replace the German.
He will be remembered in Chelsea history for his 20-month tenure as manager.
