Manchester United won't participate in another Premier League match this month after the match against Leeds United was postponed.
Following the match against Crystal Palace a week earlier, this was United's second league game to be postponed as a result of The Queen's passing.
The UEFA Nations League matches come next, followed by an immediate international break until the Premier League resumes at the beginning of October.
A busy October calendar for Manchester United will begin on the road against Manchester City.
The following Premier League matchup features Manchester United
It's not exactly ideal that Manchester United's upcoming Premier League matchup is against rival Manchester City.
The international break always would have interrupted United's run of four straight league victories, but with a month having passed since their last meeting against Arsenal, the Red Devils will enter this match unusually chilled.
Possibly, if Anthony Martial is successful in making his injury comeback, there is some positive news.
Erik ten Hag was cautious when speaking before the Real Sociedad match, saying: "He is progressing but he is not ready to get back into team training or in a game."
Martial will have had more time to work his way back to full health by the time United resume play on October 2.
It was the ideal game for Martial.
Martial has a good chance of entering Manchester United's starting lineup right away.
Compared to Ronaldo and Rashford, who are both sure to receive calls from Portugal and England, he would be more rested.
Martial is the favored lead striker for United, at least based on what Erik ten Hag demonstrated during preseason. He simply hasn't been healthy enough to begin games yet this year.
Martial has been a major contributor to victories over City while at United. The most recent being the away win at The Etihad in 2021, a 2-0 victory in which he earned an early penalty and challenged Ruben Dias throughout the entire game.
Prior to the lockdown, Martial also provided the opening goal in a 2-0 victory over City at Old Trafford. The same season, he also scored in a 2-1 victory away at The Etihad.
Martial showed flashes of this in preseason, and he will be eager to play again as soon as possible. The ideal game to return to and make a statement in is City away.
He made a difference on his lone outing this year by producing the game-winning assist against Liverpool last month. Having him available for the City game would be a huge help.
