Following Liverpool's stuttering start to the season, Mohamed Salah stated that he "needs a kick."

The Egyptian international, like the rest of his Liverpool teammates, has had a slow start to the new season and has received some words of wisdom from an ex-Red.

Liverpool have had a slow start to the new Premier League season, with several of their biggest stars yet to find form.

One of those in question is Liverpool's talismanic forward Mohamed Salah, who has only two league goals in his first six appearances. The most recent of these occurred on matchday three, during a 2-1 loss to Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Things haven't gotten any better in the Champions League, with Jurgen Klopp's side suffering their heaviest defeat in the competition's history, a 4-1 thrashing at Napoli.

Their next game will also be in European competition, with the Reds hosting Ajax and hoping to finally kickstart their season. Former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy has spoken out about where his old club is going wrong this season, citing Salah as someone who needs to improve.

"We have to be careful not to go too far with this, but my feeling is that some of the players have fallen into what some executives call a 'comfort zone,'" the ex-Red told talkSPORT

Murphy cited a number of struggling Liverpool players who need to improve quickly before turning his attention to the Egyptian international.

Salah's another one, Salah needs a kick," he explained, "and it has nothing to do with the deal he signed, but you need it sometimes." When you've managed to score that many goals and done what he's done, sometimes you just need someone up there to tell you, 'Come on,'

I've seen the best midfielder Liverpool has ever had [Steven Gerrard] do it before, trying to dig someone out in front of the rest of the lads. I recall being told to take a shower during halftime of a Champions League game. Nobody could have predicted that!
