England Men's National Team Head Manager Gareth Southgate today released 28 players ahead of the international games against Italy on Friday, September 23, 2022 and later play against Germany on September 26.

Gareth Southgate has handed Ivan Toney his first national team call up. Toney has been in great form this season after he rejected the option of joining the Jamaican football team last year. He has been called up to replace injured Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford. Meanwhile, Eric Dier of Tottenham has been recalled after two years of national team absence.

Shockingly, Jadon Sancho was left out of the Southgate list despite his impressive form this season. In defending his selection Gareth Southgate's profile on Englandfootball.com began. "We recognize the country is still in a period of mourning and my thoughts remain with the Royal Family. While it is important to explain some of our decisions around selection, we didn't feel it was appropriate to hold a full press conference, when it might divert attention from where people's minds should be at this time. He continued "This is a bigger than normal squad and part of the rationale is that we are very close to a World cup, and we feel, although our results were disappointing in the summer, we have picked on the basis of form and capability over a long period."

He again justifies the inclusion of Ben Chilwell,Luke Shaw,Harry Maguire, and Kalvin Phillips, who all have had relatively few minutes with their clubs.

He asserted, "Clearly, we have a number of players, including Ben Chilwell, Luke Shaw, Harry Maguire, and Kalvin Phillips, who are not playing a lot of minutes for their club. It is not ideal, but we feel they have been, and can be, important players for us. It is not a perfect situation, but there is still a lot of football to be played before Qatar. ".

The full lists of the squad are; Goalkeepers: Dean Henderson (Nottingham Forest), Nick Pope (Newcastle United), Aaron Ramsdale (Arsenal)

Defenders: Trent Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool), Ben Chilwell (Chelsea), Conor Coady (Everton, on loan from Wolverhampton Wanderers), Eric Dier (Tottenham Hotspur), Marc Guéhi (Crystal Palace), Reece James (Chelsea), Harry Maguire (Manchester United), Luke Shaw (Manchester United), John Stones (Manchester City), Fikayo Tomori (AC Milan),

Jude Bellingham (Borussia Dortmund), Mason Mount (Chelsea), Kalvin Phillips (Manchester City), Declan Rice (West Ham United), James Ward-Prowse (Southampton).

Tammy Abraham (AS Roma), Jarrod Bowen (West Ham United), Phil Foden (Manchester City), Jack Grealish (Manchester City), Harry Kane (Tottenham Hotspur), Arsenal's Bukayo Saka, Chelsea's Raheem Sterling, and Brentford's Ivan Toney

England are in Group B and will play against Iran, the USA and Wales at the FIFA World Cup in Qatar in November.
