Anglican Church and British High Commission organize Queen Elizabeth's Thanksgiving Service.
In honor of the late monarch, the Anglican Church and the British High Commission organized a special service today, Friday, September 16, 2022, dubbed "Thanksgiving Service for Queen Elizabeth."
Queen Elizabeth II, who died last week after reigning for 70 years, is mourned in the United Kingdom and throughout the Commonwealth, and she is currently lying in state ahead of her funeral on Monday.
In recognition of the Queen's role as the titular Head of the Anglican Church, the Church organized a service with a number of dignitaries, including Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, who represented President Akufo-Addo.
Dr Bawumia praised the Queen for her impactful leadership to her people and the Commonwealth, describing her as a "incarnation of virtue, courage, and affection."
"Her Majesty the Queen demonstrated exceptional leadership during a period of strong anti-colonial and independence waves on the African continent" (the 1950s and 60s). "It is not surprising, then, that the Commonwealth underwent such a massive transformation during her reign," Dr Bawumia said.
"Her Majesty had a yeoman's task of overseeing Great Britain's transition from the tensions of the post-World War II era, particularly the Cold War, playing an instrumental role in granting independence to former British colonies, one of which is our beloved Ghana, and contributing enormously to the relative peace the world has enjoyed since the end of World War II."
While expressing Ghanaians' heartfelt condolences to His Majesty King Charles III, the Royal Family, the people of the United Kingdom, and the entire Commonwealth, the Vice President also prayed for the Queen's peaceful rest.
"Ladies and gentlemen, as we honor a great woman who was an embodiment of virtue, courage, and affection, it is my prayer that God will accept her gentle soul to rest in peace.""
In a sermon, Rt. Rev. Dr Daniel S.M Torto, Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Accra, urged Ghanaians to emulate the Queen's dedicated service.
"Let us learn to serve one another." We must give back to our country. Don't wait for someone else to start before you join. Serve yourself, your family, and the nation as a whole "The Anglican Bishop insisted.
