Mathias Pogba has been charged with extortion against his brother Paul.
According to a French report, Mathias Pogba has been taken to court in connection with an alleged extortion attempt against his brother, former Manchester United footballer Paul Pogba.
According to BFMTV, a French news outlet, Mathias Pogba's police detention has been lifted, and he was scheduled to appear in court in Paris on Friday night.
Four people were arrested on Tuesday and Wednesday in connection with an alleged extortion attempt against Paul Pogba, who currently plays for Juventus.
Mathias, one of the four people detained by authorities, allegedly presented himself to investigators and was taken into custody.
Paul Pogba claimed that his brother and 'childhood friends' were part of a group that targeted him in Turin and demanded £11 million (€13 million) in 'protection services' over a 13-year period.
Paul Pogba made 157 appearances for Manchester United in two seasons as a senior player, as well as finishing his youth career at Old Trafford.
The 2018 World Cup winner signed a four-year contract with Juventus this summer after his contract with Manchester United expired.
Paul Pogba claimed the gang's threats were carried out in Paris in March, while he was on international duty, when he reportedly paid the group £85,000 (€100,000) to'save time' after they threatened him.
However, additional intimidation tactics are alleged to have occurred in Manchester in April, as well as recently in the Turin area, where Juventus plays and trains.
Mathias Pogba, 32, is also a footballer who has played for Wrexham, Crewe Alexandra, Crawley Town, and Partick Thistle in the English Premier League.
According to claims made by his lawyer Richard Arbib, Mathias has previously stated that he is a "complete stranger" to any extortion attempt against his brother.
Mathias threatened to share "great revelations" about his brother and Paul's international teammate Kylian Mbappe, which sparked public interest in the case.
A witch doctor was allegedly used by Paul Pogba to cast a spell on Mbappe, which the Juventus star denies and claims was made up to discredit him.
Paul Pogba will miss two months of Juventus action following knee surgery, putting his World Cup hopes in jeopardy.
