LAfter Vinicius Junior, a member of Brazil's national soccer team, received racial abuse, Manchester United forward Antony has shown his support for the Real Madrid player.
Last week, Vinicius made news by calling out a television commentator who used a racial slur to insult the player who was oddly criticizing his goal celebrations.
However, the abuse didn't end there. It was reported that Atletico fans sang racist songs during the Madrid derby last Sunday, and during Real's 2-1 victory, cups and other objects were thrown at the players.
While Vinicius' teammates, both at the club and international levels, have expressed their support for the 22-year-old, La Liga has already published a statement denouncing the abuse.
The most recent player to do so is Antony, who along with Vinicius is currently serving in Brazil. He said: "There are many things I don't agree with. We cannot let go of the happiness and essence we possess.
And it wasn't just us; Brazilian players generally dance after scoring a goal. or after performing a skill. European players also engage in this.
What puzzles me is why you're continuously looking at the Brazilian player. Neymar or Vinicius Junior are frequently requested for dancing. I find it confusing because not just Brazilian players but also European players do it.
"What we have with us is to keep the happiness and the spirit of who we are." It goes without saying that you should always respect your opponent and the person.
But whatever we have with us, we cannot lose. I have a tendency to dribble, but because people talk, I can't help it.
Therefore, we shall preserve this essence and the delight we feel. I can only speak for myself because Vinicius and Neymar both experienced this.
The next friendlies against Ghana and Tunisia, Brazil's final matches before the World Cup begins in November, will determine whether Antony and Vinicius get to participate.
