The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested Hassan Babangida, for alleged criminal conspiracy, employment scam, and forgery.


Hassan was arrested in Kano on alleged fraudulent claims of being an employment agent.


The suspect claimed he could secure jobs for applicants in different federal ministries and parastatals.


EFCC Head of Media, Wilson Uwujaren announced his arrest in a statement on Wednesday.



Hassan allegedly defrauded an applicant, Usman Rilwan, of N14,950,000 in the guise of getting a paid job.

Rilwan informed the anti-graft commission that he paid the suspect the money as a “facilitation fee” to “process” the job.


Hassan allegedly issued his victim an appointment letter which was later discovered to be fake.


Uwujaren added that the suspect will be charged to court after the investigations end.

A Nigerian man alongside his female accomplice has been apprehended in India for allegedly defrauding people after befriending them on social media platforms.


The suspects, Akne Benjamin (32) and Fatima Lyngdoh (42), a resident of Khasi Hill district of Meghalaya, were arrested from Delhi by Rajasthan police on Monday, September 19, 2022.



The Superintendent of Police, Sirohi, Mamta Gupta, in a statement said a complaint was received at Abu Road Sadar police station on April 24 in which a woman alleged that she became friends on Facebook with a woman who told her that she was from New Zealand.


During interrogation, Lyngdoh confessed to duping people in different states of crores of rupees, police said.

The senior police officer said both accused used to create fake profiles of foreign nationals on social media platforms like Instagram, Facebook among others.


After befriending their targets, the accused told them that they had sent some expensive gifts.


Thereafter, another member asked the victim to pay an amount failing which the target was threatened that probe agencies will launch an investigation about the gift, police added.
