K-G students having sex in Sekondi-Takoradi - Social Welfare Officer issues warning.
Constance Baiden, the Social Welfare Officer for Sekondi Takoradi Metropolis, claims that children at the kindergarten are having sex.
The STMA officer revealed on Radio 360?s flagship programme, Y3nsom, hosted by Kwame Malcolm, that this came up in some of their recent rounds as part of their sensitization.
"..We recently visited some primary schools in the metropolis to conduct sensitization, and the madam said, ei please this is a primary school, and I asked them to add all the K-G pupils because did you know that Kindergaten students have sex with themselves in recent times?" Do you believe it? K-G kids are having sex amongst themselves, I can say with authority... If you have any doubts, just ask the headmistresses if you see them... As for me, I include all of them in my sensitization rounds, and parents must not leave their children behind; you will see a little kid who is into it, so we should catch them young because they are doing it because they watch TV, and the mothers keep bringing new men into the house, and they notice it. "We have meetings with the education directors about these disclosures, and we write reports, and they are aware of what is going on," she explained.
She went on to describe how, in September, the Social Welfare department paid a visit to the rapidly expanding prostitute base in the heart of Sekondi township.
"We went there twice this month, once for the railways section and once for the post office section, to do sensitization." Our concern is for the children, because there are girls as young as 10 and 12 years old there, and we rescue them to hand them over to their parents, only to find them back in there the next moment.
Adults patronize the young girls because cars park there at night. They say the railway section is for kids and the beach area is for adults, so when we went there one time, we were approached by a Nigerian girl about 16 years old and asked how much she charged. She revealed that she sometimes pays 20, 30, and 50 cedis because she can sleep with up to 8 people per day. So we engaged her and planned to trade her, but she later changed her mind. We have also rescued children from surrounding areas such as Nkontompo, Essaman, and Ekuasi and returned them to their parents, but they returned the next time," she revealed.
Hon. Ibrahim Ousmane aka Sansiro, Assemblymember for Asimensudo, revealed that prostitution rings are well-organized, with some requiring 8,000 cedis before you can detach from your mistress and operate on your own.
He stated that some individuals, such as "Passover," a former Naval officer, are known to own the majority of the wooden structures from which the girls operate their brothel.
He wondered why this was happening right under the Assembly's nose, as his calls to the Police, DOVSSU, Sekondi Naval Base, Social Welfare, and the Ghana Immigration Service had yielded no results, as they all claimed it was the Sekondi Assembly's responsibility to act.
The assembly member of Asafo Electoral Area, Hon. Sampson Darko aka Sampson K, lamented how the assembly is wasting time to check the sprawling brothels as in the next few years if they try to evict them some civil society organisations may come to their rescue in the name of human rights.
