"Extremely selfish" Bruno Fernandes slammed Manchester United fans and said he wished he'd joined Tottenham.
Bruno Fernandes has received a scathing review from a former Manchester United player who was unimpressed with a recent interview he gave.
Former Manchester United defender Paul Parker lashed out at Bruno Fernandes after the playmaker made "humiliating" remarks about his former managers.
In an interview published earlier this week, Fernandes discussed how hiring managers with opposing styles, namely Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick, had hampered United. Following a disastrous start to the season, Solskjaer was fired in November, and Rangnick struggled to steady the ship, leading United to their lowest-ever Premier League points tally.
While it has undoubtedly been a difficult year at Old Trafford, former England international Parker accused Fernandes of using his comments to deflect blame away from himself and his teammates.
When asked about the Portuguese's assessment of his former Manchester United managers, Parker told BeMyBet: "I don't think that's any excuse." A lot of money has been spent on people to play for that club, and they didn't sign up to be told what to do all the time.
"A lot was expected of them, and they haven't delivered." Nowhere close. Bruno Fernandes is clearly saying this to detox himself more than anything else. It's embarrassing to come out and say there have been a lot of managers because you and your teammates haven't been delivering."
During his interview with The Athletic, Fernandes also mentioned that Tottenham was interested in signing him before he agreed to join Sporting Lisbon.
Tottenham's interest in Fernandes was probably not as high as Manchester United's, according to Parker. "Which makes perfect sense given that United overpays for players." But it would have been a better idea for him to go to Tottenham, because Manchester United are too big a club for him, and you can see how bad he plays when things aren't going well.
"He definitely isn't the type of disciplined player that Manchester United require, and I'm pretty sure that many Man United fans, despite him lifting them during the lockout period, would say they wished he had joined Tottenham instead of Man United." Bruno Fernandes is the type of person who, if the boat was sinking, would jump in.
He'd be the first one to jump out of it."
Fernandes has struggled to meet his high output expectations this season. During his eight appearances, he has only one goal and one assist.
