Arsene Wenger explains why Arsenal has a "great chance" of winning the Premier League.
Arsene Wenger led Arsenal to their last Premier League title in 2004 and is hopeful that this season will see them crowned champions of England once more.
Arsene Wenger believes Arsenal can take advantage of the Premier League's lack of a "super dominating team" this season to win their first title since 2004.
The legendary former Arsenal manager also believes that the mid-season break imposed by the World Cup in Qatar helps his old club's "good opportunity." Arsenal have had a fantastic start to the season under Mikel Arteta, winning six of their first seven league games and sitting pretty at the top of the table.
Defenders of the title Manchester City is only one point behind Tottenham on goal difference, despite draws with Newcastle and Aston Villa. Wenger believes Pep Guardiola's side is not the all-powerful side of recent years.
"I would say they have a great chance this season since I don't see any super totally dominant team," the French legend said of Arsenal's title hopes, according to Sky Sports. "I believe it is a good time to do it this season."
"Of course, it's a special season as well because you have the World Cup in the middle and you don't know how much that will affect individual players' and teams' performances." Overall, I believe there is a good chance this season."
Whilst also Arsenal went into the September international break leading the Premier League, Arteta has refused to talk up his team's chances of winning the title in May. "You can ask me every day," he said in a press conference following last Sunday's classy 3-1 victory over Brentford. I am overjoyed that we are now top of the league.
"Yesterday, I was irritated because we lost it [against Manchester United], and we used it today to show that we want to be there, and that's what we're going to do. The goal is to strive to be the best we can be, and the table will not lie after 38 games."
Arsenal return to action after the international break, hosting local rivals Tottenham at the Emirates in what is expected to be their most difficult match of the season. Spurs have yet to taste defeat in the Premier League this season, and their most recent outing saw them thrash Leicester 6-2.
Meanwhile, Arteta said of his plans for the international break, "I want to spend some time with my kids and my family, whether that's in London or away." And take care of the boys who are here; we need to take care of them as well because some of them are injured. And begin to prepare because we have a lovely occasion.
