The Lionel Messi and Barcelona saga didn't get the happy ending it deserved, but it may just be on hold as it waits to continue. The Catalan club is considering a number of options because they want the Argentine star back.

For mending the rift between the Blaugrana and the best player to have put on their shirt, Joan Laporta has a number of potential solutions.

The president of Barcelona believes that a solution to this problem is urgently needed. One possibility is that the team hosts a celebration of Messi and all he accomplished for and with the Blaugrana.

As part of this strategy, he would serve as the club's global ambassador. The alternative, slightly more complicated choice is to have Messi play for Barcelona once more at the Camp Nou. Although Xavi would be very interested in this, it would be a huge financial undertaking.

MESSI AND LAPORTA'S RELATIONSHIP.

Despite the manner in which the Argentina international left the club, the connection between Laporta and Messi has already improved and is regarded as positive.

Messi's team disputes claims that they have spoken over the phone in some media. But Messi has never ruled out going back to Barcelona, which he views as a second home in many respects.

He hasn't completely abandoned his home in Castelldefels, and he still makes the occasional trip there.

Messi frequently gave the impression that he was dissatisfied in Paris last season. Rumors suggest that the adaptation off the field hasn't been easy either, though things do appear to be improving there. On the field, things haven't gone as well as expected.

WHAT ROLE WOULD MESSI PLAY FOR BARCELONA?

Barcelona has made it clear that they want Messi back and that they want to appropriately honor his career in any case.

It has been proposed that they grant him a consultative post, such as that of a technical secretary who would collaborate with the sporting director

His role would also need to be defined if he comes back as a player. The option is there because his contract with PSG expires at the end of the current campaign, but he would have to accept a significant pay reduction to make it happen.

Then there is the matter of how a 36-year-old player would fit into Xavi's plans. Despite his advancing years, his skill is undeniable, but Xavi would need to figure out a means to prevent hurting the growth of his young talent, such as Pedri, Ansu Fati, and Gavi.
