The National Chairmanship contest between the incumbent, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, and the General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, according to Yaw Boateng Gyan, a former national organizer for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), will not benefit their party.

The party chairmanship will be up for grabs in the forthcoming national elections on December 17, 2022, according to "General Mosquito," as he is known.

Speaking on the program "Ghana Teen" on Oyerepa TV, Mr. Gyan claimed that the rivalry between the two might split the party before the pivotal 2024 elections.

It can be done with the two, he said, "exactly as we did for the first time in 1992 in Cape Coast, where the party elected national officers based on consensus." The party will require the two to move into the 2024 elections.

The National Council of Elders of the old NDC Party requested that the two be called to explain how their decision to run against one another may jeopardize the party's prospects.

"Since we are in the party and are aware of the numerous occurrences, if we do not take the appropriate precautions, things will not go well for us." Our defeat in 2016 was significantly influenced by the 2014 national executive elections held at the Kumasi Sports Stadium. Because of the way some candidates were treated during that race, their supporters abstained from voting in the national elections. And the reason we are still in opposition is because of the one choice we made in 2014.

Both my supporters and those of the chairman, Kwabena Agyei, who lost, were severely injured. "Because of how we were treated, some of them promised not to vote in the national elections and in fact did not, which is why we are still in opposition today," he continued.

He also advised the party not to think they had already secured victory in the 2024 elections.

"We shouldn't assume that 2024 is already set in stone for us. We must make an effort to ensure that we get rid of all roadblocks. We will be impacted if we make jokes about this.

"Let's talk to Aseidu Nketia and see where he can use his skills if he declares he won't run for General Secretary again. Therefore, the two should be called on to provide a middle ground for them if the party is to remain peaceful and prosper. He told the show's host, Kwesi Parker-Wilson.
