Marcus Rashford's expected comeback from injury has given Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag a major boost ahead of Sunday's trip to the Etihad, according to sources.

The Red Devils have experienced a number of aches and pains up front, with Anthony Martial suffering two injuries and Christian Eriksen being forced to play as a false nine at the beginning of the season.

Rashford was the most recent victim, missing the most recent international break and United's Europa League match against FC Sheriff due to a muscle injury. Had he been healthy, he probably would have been given an England recall.

Ten Hag was hesitant to place a time limit on the forward's potential return to play, but it looks he has recovered in time to face Manchester City on Sunday.

The Sun reports that Rashford is winning his weekend fitness struggle and "feels ready" to participate in the match at the Etihad.

The United players who did not participate in the recent international break have already started exercising with him again, and the rest of the team will return to Carrington on Wednesday and Thursday.

Rashford, 24, has had a strong start to the season, so having him recovered and ready would be a huge advantage for Ten Hag.

In just six games, he has already scored three goals and provided two assists in the Premier League, contributing significantly every 104 minutes. His speed and direct running are viewed as a significant advantage against City.

Though Harry Maguire seems to be a question after suffering an injury while playing for England against Germany, Ten Hag will be hoping Martial is also healthy for the trip to the Etihad.

The center-back was forced to play the last sections of the 3-3 draw practically on one leg, according to Three Lions captain Harry Kane, and Maguire could spend some time on the bench even though he had already lost his spot in Ten Hag's starting XI.

The Tottenham striker admitted, "H [Maguire] had a pretty bad injury there in the end."

He continued to play for another five to ten minutes nearly on one leg. He has great character, and for that, I'm really proud of him.
