Despite an obvious snub in the latest Fifa ballon dor ranking due to a slow start in the previous season with Paris St Germain. Lionel Messi is already in tremendous form and continues to do so with his national team, Argentina. Lionel Messi has now hit more records originating from his last game in which he came on as a substitute for Argentina in the game against Jamaica.

A brace against Jamaica elevated Lionel Messi to become the first South American player to score 90 goals in all international competitions and the first player to do so for Argentina. The player currently has 10 goals and 8 assists in his last 13 games and is set to be one of the players to look out for in the world cup tournament. This world cup could be the last International tournament for Lionel Messi and his compatriots have promised to give their very best, but could it be enough to help Lionel Messi lift the World Cup? The last time Argentina won a world cup was in 1983 under the influence of legendary Diego Maradonna. Lionel Messi has surpassed his eternal rival Christiano Ronaldo to become the active player with the most number of free-kick goals scored. Christiano Ronaldo has 58 free-kick goals while Lionel Messi is a step ahead with 59 free-kick goals. Lionel Messi has achieved this feat in lesser games played. Lionel Messi also becomes the only player to score in 18 consecutive UEFA champions league seasons.

Argentina is currently on a 35-game unbeaten streak and this can be credited to their captain. Lionel Messi has been influential in bonding with his teammates who are more like a family than players called up to play for the national team. The team has been able to beat Brazil in the Copa America Finals and Italy in the Finallisima after enduring several defeats in successive finals. Argentina is on course to be one of the teams to win the World Cup in Qatar 2022.   Lionel Messi also becomes the third highest international goal scorer in history after Sunil Chhetri and Cristiano Ronaldo with lesser games played. This comes as no surprise to a lot of fans around the globe. The Head Coach of Argentina complimented Messi saying " I manage Messi, but if I had to I would buy a ticket to see him every game. We have to enjoy him, no other words".
