Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta has hinted that the government will review the Electronic Transfer Levy in the near future (E-Levy).

Currently, all electronic money users, including mobile money customers, are charged 1.5 percent of daily accumulative transfers in excess of GH 100.

According to the Ministry of Finance, the E-Levy proceeds have fallen far short of expectations, with only about 10% of the projected GH600 million being realized each month.

Ken Ofori-Atta, speaking at a press conference in Accra on Wednesday, said the review of the E-Levy is part of the government's efforts to improve domestic revenue mobilization.

He went on to say that the review is also aimed at ensuring that a large number of Ghanaians pay the levy.

"Such exercises are part of an ongoing effort to ensure that we make significant progress in addressing long-standing issues with domestic revenue mobilization, indiscipline, corruption, and leakages."

"Of course, increased tax compliance and auditing will continue to be complemented by policy initiatives that allow us to tap into a larger pool of taxpayers in the coming years."

"As a result, we are looking at areas surrounding the E-Levy to ensure its efficient implementation," he explained.
