The world's largest passenger aircraft returns to Accra: Here's why:

After nearly four years since the Emirates A380 landed at Accra's Kotoka International Airport, Ghana has witnessed another historic landing at the same location.

This time, a British Airways A380, one of the world's largest passenger aircraft, will land in Accra on September 29, 2022, marking a historic second flight into the country.

On September 30, former Ghanaian Emirates pilot Captain Solomon Quainoo shared the news on Twitter, writing, "Accra had a pleasant surprise yesterday having a historical 2nd time an A380 operated (by British Airways) into Kotoka International Airport." Almost exactly four years after we first flew the Emirates A380 into Accra."

He went on to say that the second historic landing of the largest passenger aircraft demonstrates that Ghana's main airport [KIA] is capable of handling such a fleet.

"Such a great sign for our home airport's impressive capabilities to handle the world's largest passenger aircraft," Captain Quainoo added.

On Thursday, September 30, 2022, the Chief of Kyebi-Apapam Osabarima Apagya Ofori IV and others were injured in a violent clash during an anti-galamsey operation at Asamang Tamfoe in the Atiwa East District of the Eastern region.

In a joint operation with the Kibi Divisional Police Command, Osabarima Okogyeaman Apagya Ofori IV, head of the Okyeman Environmental Taskforce, invaded illegal mining sites in the Asamang Tamfoe community but were met with resistance, resulting in a violent clash.

A flying stone struck the Chief in the head, and he was rushed to Kibi Government Hospital, where he was treated and discharged.

The joint operation team was successful in apprehending 24 suspected illegal miners.

Others, however, were able to flee.

The collaborative team was led by Divisional Commander Chief Superintendent Magnus Reindorf. Sam retrieved two excavators, two motorcycles, one tricycle, and two pumping machines.

Some of the illegal miners blocked the road, preventing the team from leaving the community with the excavator and other seized equipment.

The rampaging youth hurled stones and other dangerous implements, prompting the firing of warning shots.

Some vehicles were smashed, and others, including the Chief of Kyebi Apapam, were injured.

After being released from the hospital, Osabarima Apagya Ofori IV told the media that despite numerous attempts, the community's illegal miners had resisted and attacked the Okyeman Environmental Taskforce.

He decided to collaborate with the police in order to crack down on them and protect the environment from the scourge of Galamsey.

In the meantime, the suspects are being investigated for potential prosecution.
