Roy Keane slams Manchester United players with a scathing remark that demonstrates how far they've fallen.
Manchester United were outclassed in the first half of the Manchester derby, as Roy Keane chastised his players for conceding four goals in 45 minutes.
After conceding four goals in the first half of the Manchester derby, Roy Keane claimed Manchester United's players couldn't handle the pressure.
Manchester City were at their free-flowing best, cruising past their local rivals to all but seal the game in the first 45 minutes. United entered the game on a four-game winning streak, with Erik ten Hag appearing to have his players dialed in.
But they were outclassed by a City side that started with a rarely seen centre-half pairing, with Ruben Dias and Aymeric Laporte on the bench. Nonetheless, goals from Phil Foden and Erling Haaland, both of whom scored twice, put City firmly in control.
Keane was left to lament his former team's performance, which he claimed could embarrass them. On Sky Sports, he stated: "Man City are brilliant, absolutely brilliant. If we needed a reminder of how good Manchester City were, we've got it. Man United, on the other hand, it's as if the game is too big for them. The occasion has tzaken its toll on the players, and I almost can't believe what I'm seeing.
"It could be a lack of faith. Okay, we praised them before the game, but there were concerns about the players Man City lacked. But the quality they've demonstrated, despite the fact that it's been easier for them. United's passing has been sloppy, with gaps everywhere, two players in midfield being pulled everywhere, and poor decision-making - and it's costing them.
United's defeat was their third in the first seven games of the season, putting them nine points behind the leaders at this early stage. Ten Hag's team selection will undoubtedly be questioned as he continues to leave Casemiro and Cristiano Ronaldo on the bench.
The pair were onlookers as United were ripped apart by their neighbors, who underlined their own title credentials as they seek a hat-trick of Premier League titles. City added two more goals in the second half to win 6-3, with Haaland and Foden completing their trebles.
United's goal this season is to finish in the top four, and their defeat at the Etihad puts them in sixth place. However, their flaws were exposed once again ahead of league games against Everton, Newcastle United, Tottenham Hotspur, and Chelsea.
