Real Madrid has no plans to extend the contract of midfielder

Following a record 14th Champions League title last season, many veteran players left as their contracts expired, allowing Real Madrid to free up a significant portion of their payroll.

Real Madrid will have nearly a half-dozen players out of contract at the end of the 2023 season. Many of them are senior club icons, some are shunned rejects who know they will not be offered a contract renewal by the club, and others are individuals whose future is still unknown.

The seven players whose contracts expire in 2023 are Karim Benzema, Luka Modric, Toni Kroos, Mariano Diaz, Nacho Fernandez, Dani Ceballos, and Marco Asensio.Real Madrid midfielder hopes for a contract extension, but the club does not expect him to stay.

According to Marca (via Mundo Deportivo), Los Blancos have no plans to re-sign Dani Ceballos.

Ceballos returned to Real after an unimpressive loan spell at Arsenal, and he performed admirably in the final few weeks of the season, playing a key role in both the LaLiga and Champions League triumphs.

The 26-year-old had hoped for regular playing time at Real Madrid, but despite a remarkable comeback that has turned him into a fan favorite, he has not been able to get it.The reasoning behind Real Madrid's inability to provide Ceballos with consistent minutes is largely valid. Because the midfield is so crowded, it's difficult for him to get consistent minutes.

Many, however, see him as the ideal replacement for Luka Modric, whose contract expires in 2023 but is almost certain to be renewed for another season, if not more, making the case for Ceballos all the more uncertain.Ceballos' potential has been highlighted in recent months, and there is no doubt that he is a talented player, but it appears that his future will not be with Real Madrid. If Real Madrid does not offer him a new contract, the midfielder has been linked with a return to Real Betis.

Exclusive: Fabrizio Romano comments on Cristiano Ronaldo transfer situation after being left on the bench for Man Utd’s defeat to Man City

Cristiano Ronaldo was surprisingly left on the bench for the entire 90 minutes of Manchester United's 6-3 defeat at the Etihad Stadium yesterday.

Pep Guardiola's side were in fine form as they easily won the first Manchester Derby of the season, with Erling Haaland and Phil Foden both scoring hat-tricks.

Erik ten Hag, on the other hand, left Ronaldo on the bench and never brought him on, which Fabrizio Romano questioned in his exclusive column for CaughtOffside.Romano believes that the veteran Portugal international still has something to offer in a big game like this, but he also insists that the player's transfer situation has not changed.

Ronaldo's future appeared to be in jeopardy for much of the summer after he missed a large portion of Manchester United's pre-season, but Romano says it's too early to predict what his agent Jorge Mendes will do for his client in January.

"There hasn't been an update on Cristiano Ronaldo because it's too early," Romano explained. "It will be easier to understand Cristiano's position with Mendes in November/December, during the World Cup - nothing has changed as of now."

"To be honest, I'd always play Cristiano in big games like the Manchester Derby, but it's also worth remembering that he didn't go through the entire pre-season."Ronaldo is approaching the age of 38, but he still had a fantastic season for United last season, scoring 24 goals in all competitions for a struggling side, so one imagines some fans will be questioning Ten Hag for not even calling on him as a substitute against City yesterday.

While there's no doubt Ronaldo is past his prime, he remains one of the greatest of all time, and it's unfortunate to see his Premier League career end in this manner.
