Chelsea defender sets unwanted record. No defender in the league has ever done this
Ethan Ampadu, a Chelsea defender, has set an unfavorable record in the Italian Serie A.
The 22-year-old centre-back has signed a season-long loan with Serie A club Spezia.
Ampadu, who is highly regarded in Wales, spent last season on loan with Venezia in Serie A.
On Sunday, the Chelsea loanee had a forgettable game for Spezia, giving away the fastest penalty in Serie A history in a 4-0 loss to Lazio.Ampadu fouled Ciro Immobile inside the box 39 seconds into the game, setting the record for the fastest spot-kick ever conceded in Serie A history.
Ampadu was also booked for the challenge, but Immobile missed the resulting penalty kick.
Despite this, Spezia went on to lose the game 4-0.
Spezia are currently ranked 12th in Serie A.
Meanwhile, Wales manager Robert Page encouraged Ampadu to leave Chelsea in order to get more game time ahead of the World Cup this summer."Ethan has demonstrated in the last two to three years that he is not afraid to go and play games," Page said.
"He's done it in the Premier League, the Bundesliga, and he's even played in Italy."
"He was back in the Chelsea squad over the weekend, so perhaps they recognized his value to the team."
"He had a pre-season to help him, and it's great if he can play and be a part of it." But if he isn't, that is something he may have to address."
