THE ELECTRIC SUV FAMILY IS ABOUT TO GET THE BMW IX6, IX7, IX8, AND IX9

The hallmarks of the forthcoming electric SUV line from BMW were discovered by us.

For what almost certainly will be four brand-new electric SUVs, BMW has recently submitted a flurry of trademark applications. The four trademarks, iX6, iX7, iX8, and iX9, were discovered by CarBuzz and registered with the German Patent and Trade Mark Office. They adhere to BMW's naming convention for electric SUVs. The most recent filings with the German Patent and Trade Mark Office, dated September 28, indicate that BMW has intensified its development of its electric SUV range. However, this was five years before electrification really took hold of the industry.

The iX is currently the only electric SUV that BMW sells in the United States; however, despite BMW's decision not to sell it here, an iX3 is already available in several other markets. However, all of these new models are larger than the iX3, with the exception of the iX6, which is most likely a midsize vehicle, and the others all falling into the full-size category. However, while the iX6 and iX7 are simple to comprehend, the iX8 and iX9's design is less clear.

The iX6 is our first choice. This ought to be an electric SUV that looks like an X6 Coupe. Interestingly, there is no sign of an iX4 trademark, but rumors suggest that this model will use the Neue Klasse platform to completely replace the gas-powered X4.

An iX6 has been talked about before, but it won't be available until April 2028. We anticipate that it will have two electric motors and produce over 600 horsepower in a range-topping configuration, and that its size will likely be comparable to that of the iX.There is also the option of a less powerful rear-wheel-drive model. In the meantime, an electric version of the three-row X7 will be called the iX7. This model is necessary for BMW to compete with the Mercedes EQS SUV, but it won't be available until August 2027. We anticipate that it will have comparable outputs to the i7 sedan's 536 horsepower, given that it is one of the brand's flagship SUVs. However, the iX7's heavier weight may prevent it from matching the i7's 4.5-second 0-60 mph time. Expect comfortable seating in three rows, just like in the regular X7.

Finally, we move on to two models that remain a mystery: the X9 and X8. According to previous reports, the X8 will continue to be a flagship SUV with sportier styling despite the availability of the XM plug-in hybrid. We anticipate that the iX8 will have a sloping roofline and sharper driving dynamics than the iX7 because BMW only uses SUVs with even-numbered badges, such as the X4, X6, and so on.Since the XM is an independent M vehicle, there is room for a large two-row SUV with plush materials and the best technologies, like the iX8, but without the XM's focus on performance. Additionally, since the XM is a PHEV equipped with a V8 engine, it won't directly compete with it in sales because it is entirely electric.

The iX9 is the only option left. Just by the badge, it stands to reason that this is an electric SUV with three rows that sits above the iX7 just from the badge. But is there room in the BMW lineup, let alone in a garage of average size, for such a vehicle? The current X7 is longer than any other BMW SUV before it, stretching to over 203 inches. Even though Rolls-Royce is owned by BMW, our guess is that the iX9 will be positioned as the ultimate BMW SUV with a sky-high price, unrivaled comfort, and a silky ride. However, there are larger SUVs available, such as the Rolls-Royce Cullinan, which measures 210 inches in length, and the Cadillac Escalade ESV, which measures a frankly absurd 227 inches in length. It will be less sporty than the smaller iX models, and the back seats will come equipped with all of BMW's amenities, such as the theater screen that was first seen on the new 7 Series. The iX9 may have a lot in common with a future Cullinan EV because Rolls-Royce is also moving to electric models soon.

We anticipate that all of these electric SUVs will feature distinctive instrumentation graphics and exterior blue detailing reminiscent of BMW's EV designs.

There is no way to know when an iX8 or iX9 will be available, but you shouldn't anticipate seeing them before the earlier-mentioned smaller models. The new XM PHEV weighs more than 6,000 pounds, so hopefully BMW will have found a way to make electrified SUVs lighterby then.
