UCC: Students are encouraged to be responsible during SRC Week celebrations.

In order to ensure the success of the 59th Student Representative Council (SRC) week celebration at the University of Cape Coast, the planning committee has launched a Diaspora peace campaign, urging students to act responsibly during the week-long celebration.

The campaign, which took place in some of the university's surrounding communities such as Kwaprow, Amamoma, and Ayensu, among others, aimed to educate students about specific violent acts while also encouraging them to refrain from such activities during the celebrations.

Due to COVID-19, UCC has been unable to celebrate SRC Week and Hall Week for the past three years.

Mr. Kirk Otabil, Chairman of the planning committee, told ATL FM NEWS that recent violent acts during such occasions have primarily been caused by diasporans, hence the campaign.

"We want to use this opportunity to educate our diaspora friends, telling them that there is no need to engage in riots because of the schism between ATL hall and Casford."

"And the people who advocate for such riots are diasporans, and before you know it, there are misunderstandings among students about issues of supremacy."

"This is why we came up with the hashtag, no hall colors." We want students to know that this SRC week celebration is not affiliated with any hall. So it doesn't matter which hall you're coming from. So, when you come on board to celebrate this occasion, you should not be wearing any hall colors," he added.

He stated that the success of this year's celebration will determine whether similar events will be held in the future.

As a result, he urged students to be cautious and responsible as they celebrated SRC Week.

While recognizing SRC's efforts to promote peace in the University, he urged Junior Common Room Council (JCR) Presidents in the various halls and other stakeholders to contribute to campus peace.

He also encouraged students to participate in activities planned for SRC Week, which has the theme "expanding the horizons of positive fundamentals through Edutainment."

Among the activities planned for the celebration are donations to the Sam Jonah library, the transportation section, and the ICT center, a car wash writing conference, UCC's strongest, 21st century, movie night, and a health walk.
