The 401-horsepower turbocharged five-cylinder engine of the 2022 Audi RS3 performance sedan, which was first shown off in Europe last year, is ready to tear up the streets.
It appears that Audi is already working on a facelift for its smallest RS model, despite the fact that it is so new to the market. It's possible that the fact that the CarBuzz spies took pictures of a Lamborghini Huracan and a disguised prototype was a coincidence.
This test mule probably means that Audi is working on a mid-cycle refresh for the A3 lineup, including the S3 and RS3. We wonder if Audi has something else up its sleeve because it seems like it's too soon for such an update. Even though the side skirts and front and rear bumpers are covered in camouflage, there are still some differences from the previous RS3. The shape of the grille is slightly different, and the mesh appears to have a diamond pattern instead of the current hexagonal pattern. The lower bumper may also have been altered, and Audi's four-ring emblem appears to have been moved up on the grille.
The thicker camo makes it harder to see the changes at the back, but we think the rear bumper and diffuser have been changed in some way. Although it is impossible to determine whether these are only for testing, this prototype uses 10-spoke wheels that are not currently available on the RS3. We were too far away to get any interior shots, but we think the RS3's cabin might get some updates to make it worth getting a mid-cycle refresh.
Since Audi's most recent infotainment technology is already present in the current RS3, we are unsure of what else could be upgraded in terms of technology. We might be able to learn more about what the German automaker has planned for the model line if we spot Audi testing the A3 or S3. We wouldn't be surprised if Audi is already working on a final version of the RS3, which will likely be the last gas-powered model before the electric A3 arrives in 2027. Although it seems unlikely at this point,
The RS3 is already one of the best cars in its class, but Audi might give it a performance boost by making it have a stronger engine, bigger brakes, tires that stick better, and other improvements. But the exterior of this test mule doesn't clearly show any significant differences, so this is just a guess.
Since the RS3 is still in its infancy, we cannot anticipate any official announcements regarding a facelift for a very long time.
