The battle between the upcoming Ford F-150 Raptor R and the Ram TRX is one of the most intense automotive battles we are preparing for. Unfortunately, despite the highly anticipated new powertrain, it appears that it may not be sufficient to cross the finish line before its most prominent competitor in a short sprint race.
With 700 horsepower and 640 lb-ft of torque, Ford's Predator supercharged 5.2-liter V8 makes the Raptor R the most powerful truck the company has ever produced. The Blue Oval appears to be competing against the TRX's supercharged 6.2-liter V8 with 702 horsepower, which is marginally more powerful. The TRX's superiority is almost certainly established, according to some information gathered by Ford Authority. According to Ford insiders, the Raptor R will not be able to match the Ram's 4.5-second 0-60 mph sprint time.
For comparison, the standard twin-turbo V6 F-150 Raptor accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in 5.2 seconds. However, no claimed time has been revealed yet.
Despite the fact that the Raptor R weighs 490 pounds less than the TRX, it will not be enough to outweigh the Ram in a straight line. We must reserve judgment until these two performance giants are tested in real-world conditions, as with all claimed specifications. Who can say? We might be surprised in a good way.
Using the current F-150 range, private tuners have already begun working hard to catch up to the Ram by increasing power up to 770 hp.
There is no doubt that we will see some crazy power increases shortly after the Raptor R hits the streets. Shelby has already demonstrated to us that a 3.8-liter supercharger can produce a terrifying 900 horsepower from the Predator V8. Its GT500KR is said to be able to go from 0 to 60 mph in 3.4 seconds with this and other improvements to the drivetrain. Given the Raptor R's four-wheel drive system and additional mass, this may result in a truck variant capable of taking out the TRX.
