According to a report, Liverpool tried to acquire Yves Bissouma this summer, but Tottenham won out over the former Brighton midfielder.
Throughout the summer transfer window, the Reds were met with increasing calls to strengthen their engine room. On the day of the deadline, they signed Arthur Melo from Juventus on loan.
The Brazilian, on the other hand, hasn't yet had a significant enough impact for the Anfield team. Additionally, the fact that he will be out of action for up to four months due to an injury has raised concerns about Liverpool's selection process.
Several players were linked to the Merseyside club during the summer. Bissouma, a Mali international, was a long-term target for them.
He signed for Tottenham this summer, but The Athletic claims that Liverpool pursued the 26-year-old during the most recent transfer window.
Bissouma, on the other hand, relocated to North London after the Reds were unable to reach an agreement.
Bissouma now joins the list of potential players Klopp mentioned when he said in the summer that one of Liverpool's targets turned them down.
Aurelien Tchouameni was also reportedly a Liverpool target, along with Bissouma. However, the Frenchman made the decision to transfer to Real Madrid rather than Monaco.
In the meantime, it is said that the Reds were interested in Matheus Nunes before he decided to join the Wolves.
Yves Bissouma is still adjusting to Tottenham Bissouma made a name for himself at Brighton and rose to prominence as a Premier League player under Graham Potter.
He usually plays in a midfield position that is more defensive, but he can also play more centrally.
However, he has had trouble making a name for himself at Tottenham.
He has started just two Premier League games this season, despite playing in every game except one. Additionally, he has only played 90 minutes in the league once.
With Antonio Conte's careful team selection, Bissouma will hope to get more playing time at Tottenham.
Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Rodrigo Bentancur, and now Oliver Skipp have been battling the Malians for a few minutes.
There seems to be a lot of bad news about Liverpool's midfield lately. Liverpool needs to move a big midfielder.
The issue has been kept out of the public eye for the wrong reasons due to the inability to acquire Bissouma and other targets, as well as numerous injuries, including Arthur's.
Additionally, with Jordan Henderson, Thiago Alcantara, and James Milner all approaching their 30s, Liverpool requires more than one bold midfield addition.
Jude Bellingham, a star player for Borussia Dortmund who Klopp once coveted, might be one of those players.
However, as Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are both out with injuries and will likely become free agents in the summer, Liverpool will need to make a few significant additions in that area to prepare for the future.
