Because Kingston was suspended for the first two group games following a red card at the 2006 Africa Cup of Nations, he was not picked to the team for that year.
He made the provisional team four years later, but Serbian coach Milovan Rajevac left him off the final roster because he didn't see how Laryea fit into his plans.
Laryea Kingston stated in an interview with Radio Gold Talk Sports that "not going to the World Cup, 2006, 2010 for me is still a terrible for me when I think about it or when I start talking about it."
"Since I started in 2006, I participated in every match, every qualifier, every friendly match, and every game of the 2006 qualification process, but I was unable to advance.
"In 2010, it was the same; I participated in every game, and after the final World Cup game, I was asked to return home."
In an interview, he discussed his desire to represent the United States as a coach at the World Cup.
"I consider myself to be well-educated, I have my own [coaching] style, and I am confident that if I teach it to my team, Ghanaians will observe a difference.
"When I'm coaching, I want people to recognize that Laryea's squad is playing; I want them to recognize some sort of identity.
"I am aware that I did not participate in the World Cup as a player, but I firmly think that one day I will be a coach there.
So that's the project I'm working on, and I'm aware that it won't be simple.
