An Accra Circuit Court has remanded Patricia Asiedua, aka Nana Agradaa, a self-described evangelist who is accused of scamming her followers under the guise of double their money, into police custody.

Nana Agradaa, also known as Evangelist Mama Pat, is accused of defrauding people on six counts by using false pretenses and using deceptive media advertisements.

She has refuted the allegations and is scheduled to appear again on October 13.

The accused "started her operations with 'Sika Gari' then followed it up with money double, we do not know what she is coming up with the next time around," the court, presided over by Mr. Samuel Bright Acquah, said in denying bail.

In court were a few pastors from Nana Agradaa's Heaven Way Champions International Ministry.

Numerous complainants, some of whom were from Takoradi, Walewale, and Kumasi, were present in the courtroom. A number of them claimed that after paying Nana Agradaa between GHC200 and GHC1,000 for doubling, they were left with no funds to return to their homes.

Some of the complainants, according to ASP Oppong, were staying in a hotel at the State's cost.

He said that the Police will arrange an identification parade so that the congregation might recognize additional implicated individuals.

The prosecution claimed that the defendant had no established residence and that the police had to follow her down in order to determine her precise whereabouts prior to her arrest.

It refuted the defense attorney's claim that the defendant personally drove herself to the police station.

The prosecution claimed that because of information provided by the police that the defendant would be leaving the country, the airport police had to be contacted in order to block some of the roads leading to the airport in order to make the defendant's arrest possible.

The prosecution contested the release of bail, claiming that the matter was being investigated and that more individuals were filing complaints. The prosecution was led by Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Maxwell Oppong.
