According to French football analyst Julien Laurens, Kylian Mbappe feels "betrayed" by Paris St. Germain wants to quit the team in January. The France attacker now believes he made a "mistake" after signing a new three-year contract in May.
Mbappe, who has 12 goals for PSG this season across all competitions, would prefer a transfer to Real Madrid. The 23-year-old has "never talked about leaving," according to PSG's sporting director Luis Campos, from the club in January.
Laurens remarked in a BBC Radio 5 Live interview: "He feels deceived by the club since none of the promises made to him when he signed the new contract through 2025 have come to pass.
"Promises included that a new striker would be brought in so that he could play off the striker, that Neymar would leave and be sold, and that a new center back would be brought in and placed in the center of the project. None of these things have taken place.
"We were aware of the tensions, but now he's decided he doesn't want to be there. He believes that extending his contract was a mistake and that he should have left in the summer. He is now considering his options for the January transfer window."
The World Cup winner Mbappe joined PSG in 2017 on a loan from Monaco and has since won 11 trophies there, including four Ligue 1 championships.
He topped the Forbes list of highest-paid players on Friday, marking the first time in nine years that a player other than Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo had held the top spot.
Laurens continued, "Clearly, he feels there is a disconnect between him and the organization.
"He was ready to be signed by Real Madrid as a free agent in the summer. They must still have enough cash on hand to pay for both his purchase and salary.
"Would Chelsea make a move to get him? Manchester City, would? What about Erik ten Hag's time at Manchester United?
"He wants to leave, but the question of whether anyone can afford him and how much PSG will pay for him is another. PSG are now in a good situation. He could have to remain until the end of the current campaign before waiting to see what transpires during the summer."
Speaking prior to PSG's Champions League matchup with Benfica, Campos, however, shot down rumors that Mbappe is uneasy in Paris.
He admitted to being with Kylian Mbappe every day to French television station Canal Plus. He has never mentioned leaving in January to me.
"It's not a player comment; it's [from the press], and having this kind of knowledge prior to a match like this is really serious. That is why I'm here: to categorically refute that Kylian Mbappe ever discussed leaving PSG in January with me or the president [Nasser Al-Khelaifi].
Kylian is an exceptional professional, said Campos in a statement to RMC Sport. For instance, he put out effort for the squad even though he played poorly in the most recent game in Reims. Every day I see Kylian arrive with his teammates, cheerful and incredibly motivated to work.
