According to a corporate representative, Alphabet Inc's (GOOGL.O) Google has authorized former US President Donald Trump's social networking program Truth Social for distribution in the Google Play Store.
According to Google, Trump Media & Technology Group (TMTG), which controls Truth Social, will soon make the app available in the Play Store.
"It's been a pleasure to work with Google, and we're grateful they enabled us finally deliver Truth Social to all Americans, regardless of what device they use," TMTG CEO Devin Nunes said in a statement.
According to a Google spokeswoman in August, Truth Social, which debuted in the United States on the Apple App Store in February, was previously unavailable in the Play Store owing to insufficient content filtering. Google has voiced concerns to Truth Social about potential breaches of its Play Store regulations, which ban material such as physical threats and encouragement to violence.
Most smartphone users cannot easily download Truth Social without access to Google and Apple shops.
Google's Play Store is the primary method for Android phone users in the United States to obtain apps. Android users may obtain apps from competing shops or straight from a website, however, this frequently necessitates additional procedures and security restrictions.
Truth Social has been available through these channels despite Google's removal of it from the Play Store.
Android phones account for around 40% of the smartphone market in the United State
Truth Social reinstated Trump's social media presence more than a year after he was barred from Twitter Inc (TWTR.N), Facebook (META.O), and Alphabet Inc (GOOGL.OYouTube )'s following the Jan. 6, 2021, U.S. Capitol riots, after he was accused of instigating violence.
TMTG has committed to providing an "engaging and censorship-free experience" on Truth Social, appealing to a fan following that believes its opinions on hot-button issues like the outcome of the 2020 presidential election have been censored on mainstream internet platforms.
