According to Jason Cundy, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, like former Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel, could be fired if results do not improve in the coming weeks.
Jason Cundy has alerted Jurgen Klopp that he is not indispensable and that he may end up paying the ultimate price if Liverpool's fortunes do not improve.
The Reds have had a disappointing start to the new Premier League season, and Klopp has already admitted that Sunday's 3-2 defeat to Arsenal - who are now 14 points ahead of his team - was the end of the club's title hopes.
Liverpool's alarming deterioration in form comes just months after they came agonizingly close to an unprecedented quadruple under Klopp last year. But the German has been warned that his heroics from last season, as well as the accolades he has already received during his time at Anfield, may not be enough to save him unless he changes his ways.
That is Cundy's assessment, who first questioned Klopp's position following Thomas Tuchel's surprise departure from Chelsea last month. Following another disappointing result, Cundy told talkSPORT: "I recently asked if there was any reason why Klopp couldn't be fired. This was after Chelsea fired [Thomas] Tuchel. Chelsea was ahead of Liverpool in the league and had a better start to the Champions League group stage at the time.
"I don't think Klopp will be talked about [leaving] anytime soon. But there was one statistic I heard today that astounded me. They finished 10th in the same number of games as Brendan Rodgers' final season, but with two fewer points.
"Evidently, Klopp has done an incredible job for Liverpool Football Club over the last six years. But, if Liverpool looks like it might miss out on the top four, let me tell you, some mysterious decisions have been made. That's all I have to say."
Although Tuchel's departure was unexpected, Blues co-owner Todd Boehly revealed that a disagreement over the club's future direction, rather than the results on the field, was the driving force behind the decision to part ways with the German.
There had been speculation that Klopp, who left Mainz and Borussia Dortmund after seven seasons, might be in a similar situation after reaching that milestone at Anfield.
Klopp, who has a lot of credit after winning the Premier League and the Champions League during his tenure, dismissed those suggestions. Last week, he stated: "I understand that I left after seven years [previously] and that we are now in a difficult situation, and that people take that (point of view), but if you think about it, the situation is entirely different.
"Yes, it's a difficult time; did I expect us to be ninth after matchday seven before the season began? No, because I don't consider these things. However, this is the starting point; let's go from there."
