I Am Tired Of Your ‘Needless Comparisons’ About John Mahama – Murtala Mohammed Tells TV Host

Murtala Mohammed, MP for Tamale Central, Alfred Thompson, a member of the NPP Communications Team and Kwame Jantuah of the Political Desk of the Convention’s People’s Party joined Serwaa Amihere today, Thursday, October 13, 2022 on GHToday. One of the important discussions centered on galamsey and the government’s effort at fighting it.

According to Murtala Mohammed it was a serious matter that Freddie Blay, a former Deputy Speaker, MP and immediate past chairman of the NPP was defending the accomplices of Aisha Huang. Murtala explained that with the kind of relationship between Freddie Blay and Akufo-Addo one can conclude that the fight against galamsey is just a camouflage meant to calm down Ghanaians.

Serwaa Amihere disagreed and wondered why the NDC can support John Mahama’s comments on granting amnesty to some galamseyers who has been arrested and yet they are against Freddie Blay defending galamsey accomplices. Serwaa insisted that these are all the same and should be condemned. It can be recalled that days ago, Serwaa boldly stated that John Mahama is a good communicator but his comments on galamsey were distasteful and should be condemned.

Murtala Mohammed didn’t take Serwaa’s words lightly and wondered why Serwaa Amihere keeps criticizing and comparing John Mahama to others. He explained that John Mahama isn’t in power and so shouldn’t be accused as though he was a promoter of galamsey. In a rather stern caution he told Serwaa to stop the unnecessary attacks and criticisms on John Mahama because it is different from members of the NPP defending galamsey culprits.

It is interesting for many that whereas a former MP of Berekum and a member of the NPP, Effah Dartey is defending Aisha Huang, the accomplices of Aisha are also being defended in court by Freddie Blay. Many Ghanaians have insisted that this is a clear sign that the Akufo-Addo administration isn’t ready to defeat galamsey.
