N'Golo Kante will miss the World Cup due to a horrific injury setback.

France will be missing N'Golo Kante for their World Cup defense after the Chelsea midfielder suffered an injury in training that will keep him out for three months.

N'Golo Kante will miss France's World Cup defense after suffering a recurrence of his hamstring injury.

He sustained the injury during training and will be out for three months. Kante has been out of action since suffering an injury in Chelsea's 2-2 draw with Tottenham in August, though he has since returned to training. The Frenchman's problem has now worsened, and he will be out for an extended period of time.

According to The Athletic, there is no chance Kante will recover in time for France's campaign in Qatar, which is a disappointment given his importance to their success four years ago.

Chelsea manager Graham Potter has confirmed that Kante will meet with a consultant this weekend to learn more about the severity of his injury. "He's due to see a consultant at the weekend," he explained. It's a setback, and it's not good news, but I can't say much more at this point.

"There are things that have happened in the past that are concerning, so we need to get to the bottom of that." It's a setback at this point in his rehabilitation, which is concerning, but all we can do is get the right diagnosis, the right consultation, and help him get back to full fitness and enjoy his football."

Kante's contract will expire next Season and his time on the bench will not help his chances of receiving the type of extension he wants at Stamford Bridge. The two parties met to discuss Kante's future, but the club turned down his terms.

Didier Deschamps, who has presided over a poor run of form, previously claimed that Kante was his first name on the team sheet when he started in the World Cup final win over Croatia in 2018.

"The midfielder works in the shadows," he said last year. He does not receive media attention because he is unable to make a decision. Lights are occasionally shone on them. Kanté is currently in this situation. Above all, he is the first player his teammates select for their training teams! And he's the first name a coach, a national team manager, writes down when deciding on his starting lineup."

Kante has 53 international caps for his country, which is in a World Cup group with Australia, Denmark, and Tunisia. Chelsea has a plethora of central midfielders, which has allowed them to fill the void left by their star.
