Kylian Mbappe must pass three major Liverpool criteria as FSG backed to win race for France superstar
A pundit believes Kylian Mbappe will need to gain Liverpool's trust on three key points before the Reds make a move to sign him from Paris Saint-Germain.
During the summer transfer window, Mbappe was heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid. Florentino Perez, their president, was desperate to sign Mbappe as their latest 'Galactico.'
Mbappe appeared to be on his way to join the Spanish giants at one point. However, on May 22, the forward rejected their advances by signing a new contract with PSG. It is intended to keep him in Paris until the summer of 2025.
According to reports, Mbappe earns a whopping Ł42.5 million (€50 million) per year. He was also given a Ł153 million (€180 million) bonus for staying at Parc des Princes. The Frenchman now has a large say in PSG's decisions, including managerial appointments and new signings.
While the contract signing was supposed to mark the beginning of a new era for Mbappe and PSG, tensions have recently risen.
Mbappe is unhappy at the Ligue 1 club and wants to leave 'as soon as possible,' according to Fabrizio Romano.
Officials at PSG believe the player and his entourage are attempting to put them under pressure. They appear to have no plans to sell Mbappe during the winter transfer window. The uncertainty surrounding Mbappe has resurrected talk of a move to Liverpool. And the Spanish newspaper Marca recently gave the Reds a boost by reporting that Real Madrid will not renew their interest in the 23-year-old.
Mbappe's decision to reject Real Madrid in the summer has left Perez, the club's main man in charge, reeling. As a result, he is unlikely to make a move for the goalscorer anytime soon, putting Liverpool in pole position to sign him.Kieran Maguire, a football finance expert, believes Liverpool has the funds to meet Mbappe's exorbitant asking price. They can also do so without violating Financial Fair Play rules.
Former Liverpool striker Noel Whelan has weighed in on Mbappe's potential move to Anfield. The pundit believes Mbappe must meet three key criteria before joining the Reds, which he will, fortunately for the Reds' owners, the Fenway Sports Group.
"I think everyone wants Mbappe in their team," Whelan said in an interview with Football Insider. "I can't think of a single manager who would turn him down.""Would he be a good fit for Liverpool's style of play?" Yes. Would he meet their requirements for signing young players? Yes. Will he become a fan favorite? Yes.
Salah's replacement is expected to be a PSG player.
“[Mo] Salah is nearing the end of his career, and when it comes to replacements, Mbappe stands out like a sore thumb.
"If they can afford him, I believe it would be a fantastic proposition for all parties, and I believe Klopp would get the most out of him."
"I can definitely see it happening. But he won't be cheap, so they'll have to consider the budget."Whelan is correct in his assessment of Mbappe passing those three tests. Jurgen Klopp's quick and intense style of play would suit the France international. And, at 23 years old, he is precisely the type of player profile that club executives seek.
Mbappe, with his incredible goalscoring record and huge achievements as a young player, would also start life at Liverpool as a fan favorite. However, if he does not put in the effort, his relationship with the Liverpool fans may suffer.Liverpool are used to Sadio Mane and Mo Salah tracking back and assisting their defenders before they moved to Bayern Munich. Mbappe rarely does this and is prone to falling out with his teammates, which could undermine the camaraderie Klopp has fostered among his squad.
While Mbappe would be a fantastic signing for Liverpool, Reds fans may be wary of his possible arrival.
