Former Chelsea captain claims in-form Chelsea player could be a waste of time
Andy Townsend, a former Chelsea midfielder, has claimed that Chelsea striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang can be a "waste of time" at times.
Townsend recalled Aubameyang's time at Arsenal, claiming that the former Gunner would sometimes stroll through games.
According to Townsend, while Aubameyang will always score goals, he can be lazy upfront at times.
Townsend then stated that he would like to see what happens if Aubameyang is challenged for his starting spot at Chelsea.
"Let's be honest, by the end of his time there [at Arsenal], he was playing walking football," Townsend told talkSPORT."Every time I watched him, I thought to myself, 'you don't run around.' I understand he's a great goal scorer with a fantastic record.
"However, if you don't charge around, you're wasting your time in modern Premier League football."
What will define Aubameyang as an older player at Chelsea if he is left out?
"I'd be curious to see how people react. And he will be excluded. There may come a time when things aren't going so well."Graham Potter may want to shake things up, and he may believe he requires a little more energy up top."
"I think he's important for them because he's a goal scorer, but I'm curious how it'll play out if it goes the other way."
