Let's dive into the plot, shall we?
Sonny and Huck have been best friends since high school, but 15 years ago, after Sonny had a near-death experience, they stopped getting together on Huck's birthday.
Now that Sonny is a stay-at-home parent, his entire attention is on his family. As he does every year for the holiday, Huck gets in touch with him. Sonny finds himself with some "me time" for the first time in years while his wife and kids are away, but he doesn't want to go.
Sonny gets bored after only a few days. He plays golf every day but is bad, consumes copious quantities of food at large barbecues but throws up, is left alone and bored because none of his buddies can join him, and his kids don't seem to miss him. Sonny ultimately decides to attend Huck's wild weekend birthday party. Everyone is skinny dipping when they arrive at the meeting place. After that, they dress in matching track suits and board Huck's specially ordered bus.
Meanwhile, affluent customer Armando, whom Sonny worries is interested in his wife Maya, pays a visit to her and their children at the location her parents have put them.
The party group is left behind by the bus in the desert, where communal yurts have been built up and food foraging is the intended activity. Sonny leaves to complete number two after being given the necessary hardware. He is known as Big Dog because he repels a mountain lion by stabbing it with an EpiPen as it is pursuing him.
Sonny learns Armando flew a seaplane to see his family that evening when he contacts them. Maya receives an enormous project opportunity. When he cries out in jealousy, they hang up on him. Arriving to collect the $47,000 due to him is Stan, Huck's loan shark. After breaking Sonny's finger with his muscle, Dorit sets the scene on fire.
Sonny remains behind after everyone leaves to assist Huck in salvaging what they can. Huck acknowledges his financial difficulties and loneliness. Sonny sees Armando's as they ride in an Uber back to LA. When the three break in and play some disgusting jokes, they accidentally hit one of his tortoises. It's all documented on film.
Given that his family is still gone, Sonny invites Huck to continue his birthday celebrations at his home. A social media user posts a party notification, which spreads like wildfire.
Sonny jams with Seal when he arrives. The family arrives as the celebration is getting out of hand, and Maya leaves with the kids. She requests that he leave and take a short break. Sonny makes an effort to mend fences while they are apart, apologizing to Armando and putting his all into the talent competition. Dash, Sonny's kid, had a breakdown during the finale and declares he despises the keyboard. He apologizes to everyone for being egotistical and overbearing and supports everyone who wants to perform after realizing his mistakes. Sonny pursues Huck and persuades him to join him in a party planning business.
