Erling Haaland's agent believes his client will become the world's first £1 billion footballer.
The agent of Manchester City striker Erling Haaland has predicted that the player will become the game's first £1 billion player.
After triggering the release clause in his contract at Borussia Dortmund, City signed Haaland for a bargain £51.2million in the summer, and the 22-year-old has scored 20 goals in 14 games for Pep Guardiola's side.
Rafaela Pimenta, Haaland's agent, believes the prolific Norwegian's market value will skyrocket in the future, citing comparisons to other stars such as Paris Saint-Kylian Germain's Mbappe.
'I believe Erling will be the first player to receive a transfer worth around £1 billion,' she predicted. 'If you add up his football value, image value, and sponsor value, it is unquestionably £1 billion.' It's normal to compare Erling to Mbappe in order to get a sense of the market.'
Meanwhile, Guardiola says Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp's recent comments about City's spending power did not surprise him.
Klopp's claim that Liverpool cannot compete with City's Abu Dhabi owners' wealth sparked a war of words between the two clubs following an equally feisty encounter at Anfield last Sunday, in which Liverpool handed the champions their first defeat of the season.
Guardiola said ahead of Brighton's visit to the Etihad on Saturday: 'First and foremost, it's not surprising because it's not the first time he's said that in the last five or six years. And the second point is that we are facing Brighton.'
When asked if the City-Liverpool match is in danger of becoming toxic, Guardiola replied, 'I don't think so.' From our perspective, I'm pretty sure it hasn't.'
Liverpool accused City supporters of 'vile chants' and graffiti referencing the Hillsborough and Heysel disasters, and Guardiola responded, 'I didn't hear the chant.' I sincerely apologize if this has occurred.'
