Danny Murphy names the two players Liverpool can't live without
Danny Murphy believes two players are crucial to Liverpool after their shock defeat at Nottingham Forest on Saturday.
Jurgen Klopp's side fell 1-0 to Forest, thanks to a goal from former Reds youngster Taiwo Awoniyi and a masterful goalkeeping performance from Dean Henderson.
After the game, Klopp expressed his frustration with his team's inability to break down Forest's compact and defensive set-up, and he mentioned the number of changes he had to make to his starting XI due to injury.
Forwards Darwn Nunez and Luis Diaz were absent, as was midfielder Thiago Alcantara, who was suffering from an ear infection just hours before the game.Trent Alexander Arnold was also left on the bench, as the right-back is still not fully recovered from his recent injury problems.
Former Liverpool midfielder Murphy believes the absences of Thiago and Alexander-Arnold were the most damaging to the Reds against Forest.
'Once Thiago and Trent are gone from that XI, you don't have anyone with the courage to keep looking up and splitting a packed defence,' Murphy explained on Match of the Day.
'Trent played in midweek, so maybe Klopp didn't want to risk him, but I think there's a case to be made for strengthening the midfield.'Klopp had no choice but to play the kids [Harvey Elliott and Curtis Jones], and the forwards were also injured.'
Liverpool have had numerous injuries this season, but Klopp was hesitant to sign a new midfielder in the summer, though he may reconsider when the transfer window reopens in January.
